I bought Army of Two the other day because I wanted a game to just play co-op with a mate. I bought it and from 7:30pm till 2:30am we were shooting and kicking our way through the levels and the thing is, it never got boring! I like the weapon modding feature and I understand why some people might not like the repetitive gameplay but I and my friend thought it was so much fun.
So do you like Army of Two and if not why?

I've not played it myself so I'm not going to go into hardcore critic mode. It seems the main problem is that the "Army of Two" thing is used too much like a gimmick and less like a legitimate gameplay mechanic. I can't say I'm really surprised, what with the name and all. But the general sentiment seems to me that too much emphasis was placed upon that and too little upon actually making the game anything more than a mediocre shooter, otherwise.

I'd still be keen to at least try it myself as I very much enjoy co-op, but I think I understand where most of the criticism is coming from.

The thing about Army of Two is that it's just unnecessary. You can get a better co-op experience from Gears or even Halo, which is a shame when co-op is pretty much the whole selling point.

The "boost" sections and the "let's help each other open the door" bits feel tacked on, and the aggro system is terrible. Gears had a system where, occasionally, you had to split up. What they didn't do, but could have, is had two teams required to accomplish two objectives to result in the one greater objective (i.e. You take out the security tripwires while I lay the traps). That was kind of what I expected from Army of Two, but I didn't even get splitting up, nevermind joint objectives.

Compound this with the fact that the gameplay isn't very good, the guns are uninspired, the storyline is worse than Halo, there's virtually no replay value, and every character in the game is completely unlikable and you have a game that rates a 6.0 with most review sites.

I understand where tiredinnuendo is coming from in the tacked on boost sections but I think that the aggro system is quite well made. I also hate the story and the plot is terrible but I did not buy this for the amazing story. I bought this game for a weekend run through with a mate. I would have liked the two charcters to spit up a bit but that means you wouldn't be able to heal your partner. As for the guns I believe there is nothing cooler that walking into a firefight with a gold plated AK-47 with a shotgun on the bottom.
I would give Army of Two 8/10 although I have only played it co-op so I don't know what the Ai is like.

Really the only thing I didn't like about it when I played the demo was the fact I was a bullet sponge. I could soak up rounds and rounds of ammunition and never die. It was still fun, though.

Seeing as I've played AoT in both single player and Co-Op I can safely say that the game itself wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Sure, the AI seems to have a mental age of 7, but thats why you play with a friend. Alright, the guns and plot are both hardly original, but then again, in a game that is centred around gun fights in the middle east I think we can let a lapse on story pass based on gameplay. Part of the fun of the game is that you and a friend get to be immortal badasses with gold plated RPGs for a couple of hours before being dragged back to reality after realising that its just a game, if you start punishing it for being average and unoriginal then you've probably missed the point.

Haven't played the Army of Two. The Important part is, if you enjoyed the game, then it all it matters.

It makes me remember Halo,
-Why does no one likes to kill the grunts? Punishing some idiots for screaming and running instead of shootin ya.
-Why does no one likes the marines? Ok they're 5 years old following ya, but at least you have a meatshield until they're dead.
-Why does no one likes the story? No wait, fuck the story, All I care about is the mass genocide of aliens done by me, Mister Shotgun and Dr.Assault rifle.

There is nothing original about this game, nothing that this game does in a unique way, no real reason to buy it. I can play Perfect Dark 64 with my brother and have much more fun than playing this game. The story is equally ignorable and the weapons and setting are equally cliche. Sure, Army of Two lets you customize your guns, but why would I want to gold plate my AK47? Why? Weapon customization is just an "interactive" way of giving you the creative weapons that they couldn't be arsed to imagine. It is just as satisfying finding an alien BFG and firing it for the first time to find out that you killed yourself from the massive explosion that emerged from it.

I jsut played the demo and apart from the really dodgy aiming i thought it was pretty fun, its all very well to criticise the hell out of the game, but i think this would be really good to play a with a friend. I played online and found that it was pretty fun and the aggro system worked without you having to put too much thought into it. You fire too much your other guy turns inis and shoot the shit out of everyone then hes red, then its your turn. The gunfights were pretty samey but i'd fogive that if they lowered the price, im not paying £35 for it.
