Hiya escapists.

So I just remembered something I heard a while back: that not all people are able to smell the odour that aspargus produces in urine; so out of curiousity I figured I'd conduct a quick survey.

Basically: When you've eaten aspargus and go for a piss later in the day, does it smell strange?

And if you're creeped out by me inquiring about your urine, then I guess you're, uh... completely justified.

I don't keep a habit of sniffing my own piss.

Sorry.
You don't have to actively sniff it like some kind of crazy person '-.-
The smell is rather potent, so provided you breathe at all during your visit to the toilet, you should be able to notice it whether you wish to or not.
Unless, that is, you are one of the people who don't possess the ability to detect that particular smell.

Oh, ok, I get you now.

Well, in that case, yeah. Asparagus does have that effect of making piss smell even more horrendous than normal. It's certainly potent and present during that time, as you put it. To answer the question, yes, I have noticed that distinct smell during the inevitable pissing session.

Yuck.

If you asked very nicely then I'm sure most people would be perfectly happy to send samples to your address. After all, it's science.

OT: no, I haven't noticed it, what causes it? Is it the same chemical that makes broccoli and sprouts taste bitter to some people?

I don't really know.
Luckily, people with chemistry degrees have performed studies on the subject. They're probably better to inform you than I am.

I don't think so? I mean I had aspargus a few months ago and no where in my memory did I found the odor from my piss so odd/ strong that I actually remember it.

You should try Sugar Puffs, the cereal. (Quick check) Damn, you're not British. Well, I can smell this cereal again when I have a whiz.

As for asparagus, I don't eat it often and when I do I haven't noticed anything.

I'm assuming Sugar Puffs are pretty much the same as the Honni-Korn that they sell up here.

That does indeed have an effect as well. Not as horrid as that of Aspargus though. Just honey-ey.

That's the stuff. And yeah, the smell itself is quite nice. It's just bad because your brain then tells you that in some small way you want to drink your own urine. Which is a bummer.

Okay, yeah that's a creepy creature.
The way he looks down on you in that attempted assuring, sort of smug, expression...

[sub]Oh, aren't you just a dumb little child. Now come to uncle Honey.
'Honeytastic' isn't even a word. Nor is it a good attempt at making up one.
Okay, so I read too much Cracked. Whatever.

Only had asparagus once and it was nasty. Yes, it did give my urine a distinct and unpleasant odor. However, the samething happens to me with coffee. Only difference is that I like coffee.
