When I was reading the 'Khedive Rex's Birthday' thread, it interested me as to how using astrological signs could possibly accurately describe both an online and real life persona of himself, considering the apparent absurdity of astrology; but that didn't stop it from happening.

So I looked up mine (Virgo) on Wikipedia, there was a link at the bottom of the page to some Elore site explaining what Virgo's personalities/characters/traits should be, and it was scarily accurate for me.

So I'm wondering, how accurate your astrological description of yourself is to your actual self? Will we be able to regard astrology as more credible than religion, due to the presence of actual evidence that we can apply to ourselves? And are there any logical, rational, scientific explanations for why we are like we are depending on when we're born?

It would be really weird if most people on here find theirs as perfect or very accurate, considering the entire range of circumstances people have in their lives, and yet are pretty much the same person as someone else boprn in the same period of time.

Here's the link to the site to find yours: http://www.elore.com/Astrology/contents.htm

There's a list a short way down on this page of all the star signs.

Decently accurate/correct but also horrendously vague and generalized. Things said about me apply to about half of the people I know and they represent almost every astrological 'sign'.

So no, no cookie nor cigar for those writing that pile of BS.

an example: "can be surprisingly energetic in the areas that move them" or "They dislike coarse, dirty work, and will usually get someone else to do it, if necessary."

I mean, to who does that NOT apply to? Essentially correct but horrendously generalized. Everyone over the age of 15 can tell that most people don't like dirty, hard work. Doesn't exactly take a genius to figure that one out.

I haven't read about any other signs than my own, so I don't know how closely I correlate with those, but it was actually pretty accurate. A bit more then 50/50 I'd say. Still, these things correlate with the season you were conceived in, and when you were born methinks. It has nothing to do with the placement of the stars or whatever.

It's extremely generalized and mostly positive things anybody would like to associate with themselves.
Astrology is a hoax.
In no way more credible than religion.

Fail. Apparently I possess great willpower and self-discipline, which I think it slightly ruined by the fact I'm in bed still at almost noon. Oh, and I should be able to sing and I guarantee you that's not something you want to hear.

Apparently I should be the direct opposite of Aries - I am not.

I personally prefer the Chinese method of sorting people by the year. According to it I'm a rat and rats are survivors..... Despicable little rodents also, but at least it's something different from all these 'noble' or 'good' western astrological signs.

Still a load of BS, but at least a different load.

Let's break it down.

Scorpions are known for their intense and powerful natures.

right

They are willful, proud and calm with an electrifying undercurrent of seething intensity. Purposeful and animated with force,

kinda

they project a magnetic personality.

wrong

Their demeanor is dignified and reserved,

wrong

affable and courteous,

sometimes

and many have a gaze that is both direct and penetrating.

wrong

Their secretive natures make them natural detectives.

wrong

Many Scorpios possess a suspicious outlook, and need to know the reasons behind everything. Scorpio does nothing in half measures.

wrong

An all or nothing attitude permeates their entire life. When fixed on something or someone, the scorpion perseveres. Scorpio never settles. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest or not at all.

wrong

Scorpio will rarely be found in the center of activity, but will always know just what is going on of concern to him.

right

Their tenacity and willpower are enviable, their depth of character and passionate conviction admirable,

not really

but it is their deep sensitivity that makes them the best and most loyal friend. This same quality makes them the most treacherous of enemies.

first half yes, second half no

Their sensitivity, and pride allow them to be easily hurt, quick to feel insult or injury, even when none is intended,

wrong

and easily roused to heights of anger.

right

An angry Scorpio is a sight to see.

right

Unlike Leo, who can have a temper tantrum and five minutes later be quite himself again, Scorpio seethes, and doesn't give it up.

sometimes

Scorpio When they harness their abundant energy constructively, their self-confidence tempered with shrewdness, and their ambition coupled with generosity toward others, they excel at whatever they undertake.

wrong

Scorpios are demanding of others,

wrong

but never ask someone to do what they would not do themselves.

right

They can be fanatically focused and work till they drop, and ask the same of those around them. No middle ground for a Scorpio, all or nothing.

wrong

Scorpio imagination and intuition are excellent.

wrong

They possess refined critical perception and strong analytical ability.

wrong

In addition, they seem to demonstrate a natural healing power.

fuck off

These abundant gifts allow Scorpions to penetrate the most profound subjects.

wrong

They are serious folk, but quite charming to people they like, and when social events call for it.

right

Their tragic flaw is their immense pride. Once wronged, once Scorpio's pride has been diminished, the game of courtesy is over.

wrong

astrology is a load of bullshit, it's so vague that it describes everyone.

Well I'm not sure about your link, incredibly vague, but I did look at my horoscope (yesterdays and todays - its 830 pm here) after reading this just out of curiosity and it was scarily accurate.

Have you already tried looking at the descriptions of other signs? Since they would probably have a just as accurate description of you. Those descriptions are just some generalisations that could count for everyone to a certain degree. Astrology is nothing more than pure pseudoscience and therefore crap.

One of my lecturers dedicated 2 hours to taking apart Astrology, suffice to say I thought it was a load of rubbish anyway, now I just laugh inside when people try to say it's real.

Apart from just then when I voiced my opinion.

"The ruler of Pisces is Neptune. Its symbol represents a pair of sea horses or sea lions yoked together. They dwell in the innermost regions of the sea, which is symbolic of life after death or regeneration. The image also represents a duality, the struggle of the spiritual soul within the physical body. In Pisces, these two natures are joined, yet very much separate. This conflict is sometimes an inhibition to natural expression.
Earthlore Pisces: San Marino Stamp

Pisces are . . . is a difficult sentence to finish. There are so many kinds of Pisces. Strange statement? Yes, because Pisceans are the most malleable of the twelve signs. They possess a gentle, patient nature, but one that is in want of molding. They can be impressed by and completely absorbed into their environment. They are in need of a container which will shape them, guide them. Without this guiding form, this rudder, they tend to drift."

Cool story, bro. Seriously, this stuff is load a of bollocks.

I do believe there are more than 12 archetypes from which people are formed.

I read the first line of Virgo.

"The Virgo character is precise, refined, and a lover of cleanliness, hygiene and order."

I laughed, and moved on.

Not to defend astrology or perform any action so radical, but do you have some ultimate truth, some means to back up your views?

If you do I would like to be enlightened as to why you hold such strong opinions and are willing to present them without any reasoning.

2 Hours?! You can do it in 5 minutes, well less: if you move to Mars (assume we've got a colony there) or Europa or any other planet/moon in this or a different solar system, and wam: the whole astrology stuff is rubbish. It can be summarised in 1 sentence: space is not 2D.

*points at the above* Good luck seeing Mars rising if you actually live on Mars.

No, I thought it was rubbish, but every time I look at the bloody things it scares me how accurate they sometimes are. And I'm one to say "Everything can be explained by science". So of course it unnerves me.

They're always either extremely vague or generalisations that apply to most people. Take mine, for example, if you aren't guided, you're drifting...

I would have hoped that anyone reading my post would have seen that I picked those three deliberately; they attacked astrology with only their negative preconceptions, not willing to listen to it as a means to understand ancient cultures.

In many ways people who act so rashly in their dealings with what is, in essence, a truly benign religion are as arrogant as any adamant follower.

In relation to your post: the reasoning you have presented makes sense, which is more than I can say for most atheistic arguments.
