Poll: Avoiding Trolls/Flame Threads

When good forums (well, maybe some didn't start out too well, but) go bad from trolling or flame wars, what do you usually do?

I prefer the "Screw this, I'm playing Killing Floor" approach. An escapist from the Escapist.

Honestly none of those options quite pegs my attitude and response to trolls.

Firstly I don't really troll myself but I do enjoy a good troll. I have to admit I usually get a kick out of whatever stupid things they are saying. So I don't flame back, I am generally pretty polite and rational; but I DO goad them on...

Ignore it. I don't have any problem resisting the urge to jump in and add my unwanted opinion into the argument. If it's something particularly bad then I'll report it, but most of the time I just move on.

The people who responded with 'ignore him' make me lul. If there really were that many people who did that, trolling would not exist or work in this world.

It's a funny thing how people behave when the prospect of getting popped open like a ripe melon by a straight left hand with good torque on it is removed.

I like trolls and their threads. Sure it's annoying when a troll hijacks a thread but if said troll is good at trolling it can become quite hilarious for the people who can see through the trolls trolly ways at the expense of those who can't. I don't avoid troll threads, I won't report trolls and I try not to call people trolls as sometimes they are actually not trolling and are just fucking stupid. Which is also hilarious until I realise that they are real people. Then I'd prefer them to be trolls.

I also voted for the most trolling party I could at our last election. Not only is it funny to see your political opposition go ape-shit on a troll, I also find it therapeutic for society and democracy. Political trolling fuck yeah. I just wish I could have voted for The Nihilistic Peoplesparty because 1.) they are hilarious and 2.)EU basically runs my country so it wouldn't make a difference anyway and 3.) nihilism(at least the existential variety) trolls people for no reason and I'd love to see more rage-faces in our parliament.

All in all I love trolls, and fuck it, I'll admit to posting stuff that some would consider trolling. I'm not a troll though because I don't set out with the intent to troll someone.

Usually ignore, but sometimes I can get involved if it is particularly amusing.

Whenever I encounter a a person trolling I always report the person to the moderators. Flaming back does nothing except let the troll feed off the posts and reply back. The best way to deal with a troll is report them and then forget/ignore them.

Depends on what they're trolling about. I usually avoid it. I've been known to get sucked in though. I'm kind of weak.

I use the report and move on method. It works and it doesn't make you look like an ass for responding to a troll.
