I hope they all understand what the word "Boycott" means, ie. not buying something out of protest or to make a statement, and are not just throwing the word around because it sound cool like so many have done before them; you know who I mean.
Only if objectively soZeZZZZevy said:Not always. If the guns are on par or worse than the starting weapons, any advantage is negligible after leveling a couple times.Baneat said:Choice where other people do not have a choice = advantage.ZeZZZZevy said:This. How does anyone know these guns give an advantage? Have you played the game yet? If so let me know, I'd love to play it ahead of time with all the balancing done and polished.Hiphophippo said:Do you have any idea what these new weapons do or is everyone just assuming they'll give an advantage?
This being the internet I'm tempted to go with the latter.
First off, I play on the 360 so no need to worry about that whole mess of a debate. Subjectively yes, the lack of the option is annoying, but it shouldn't be something bad enough to boycott the game, considering there will be plenty of other choices available once you level up a few times.Baneat said:Only if objectively soZeZZZZevy said:Not always. For example, Gun X is identical in every way to Y but with 10% less damage through walls.
I'm thinking of stuff like the M4A1 and the ACR in MW2
For *Most* intents and purposes the ACR was superior, same fire rate, lower numbers on recoil(Almost damn near zero) same magcap lower reload times.
But, the M4A1 had better sights and if you were aiming differently you'd end with more headshots from that increased recoil (Me, basically)
For me that M4A1 is an advantage, despite the other being statistically the best choice for the general pop. It's averagely inferior, but there is subjectivity in there.
Unless for some fucking reason explosive ammo is just regular ammo that deals less damage with no + side, there will always be the "me's" that could gain an unfair advantage from it (Compared to the "me's who do not have the weapon unlock"
And it never hurt to have the choice available to everyone for any FPS game ever. What? You gonna cry because your platform is *level* with the others?
Please don't get into the whole mouse+PC spec thing, because that's outwith DICE's responsibility, and is negated at the high level due to money's irrelevance in gaming performance at a low point.
I think it's justifiably a boycott since it's damaging the game's balance for profit, against other full-paying customers who want to buy it at normal times.ZeZZZZevy said:off topic but I do know of the subjective differences. I always enjoyed the TAR-21 despite its horrendous recoil.
I suppose. I just don't see the problem here, and am angered that people are going to miss out on a great game for (comparatively) minor things. But who knows? Maybe EA will hear you guys out and make all the stuff unlockable in game.Baneat said:Basically, this may be minor, maybe not, but the principle stands, which is what a boycott is about.
AHH but the principle is a FUCKING MASSIVE THINGZeZZZZevy said:I suppose. Not the sameCommissar Sae said:Also this is hardly a new tactic,
Brink offered pre-ordered dlc - Cosmetically different, stats the same
, so did New Vegas - single player game
and a lot of indie games on steam give you tf2 hats for pre-ordering. - Hats don't affect your stats, same as Brink really (With the exception mentioned above)
just remember this wasn't DICE's decision, it was EA's. As for the principle I really can't comment on that, as I don't share your opinion.Baneat said:AHH but the principle is a FUCKING MASSIVE THINGZeZZZZevy said:I suppose. The consequence is the minor thing, but I won't stand for any dev thinking they can do it. It at least worked for the Polycount Pack (As in they didn't do it again, and tried to mitigate their first attempt without gypping the original purchasers), but Valve are nice guys (With some weird motivations atm).
Call me a pissy moaner, say it's just a few weapons in a game which will probably be balanced like shit anyway, but I know firmly where I can stand.
*Points to EA/DICE backing down in the face of a Bad Company boycott. Also re-implementing dedicated servers is a lot more of a hassle than just making what was once exclusive content unlockable via leveling.PlasmaFrog said:A boycott won't do shit, I really do mean this. Tons of folks boycotted Modern Warfare 2 since there weren't any options for dedicated server hosting. Still, everyone shamefully locked themselves away in their rooms, staring into their monitor screens, enjoying the bane of their dignity.
EA is an unstoppable monster at best when it comes to these particular decisions. They don't care entirely about what you think or want as a single person, but as how many people in the majority that are willing to fetch their wallets at the first sign of opportunity. This is what's new, and it might just stick around forever. I speak of DLC packages of course. Ever since microtransaction systems became popular as well as successful back many years ago, publishers have been dipping into the money hole ever since.
Just buy the damn game, enjoy it, and pray that this easy-scheme dies down soon.
