Well I like Gonzo's stuff, so colour me intrigued. Now I get to "enjoy" the story without having to suck at the game so hard.

Aah yes I see what you mean, they're going for realistic facial features. Lips have volume, noses actually stick out and have depth/width. I don't mind it...at least it breaks-away from the standard anime style of having lines for mouths, mosquito-bite noses and huge eyes :p

These are the guys who did the Super Street Fighter anime (story scenes) after all, it doesn't always have to be dark and can look decent with a bigger color pallette:

Or back to darkness :p

But since they're going for realistic things, now my biggest worry is them using CG. Words cannot describe how much I hate CG being used in anime, it looks so godawful and out-of-place most of the time :(

I thought we already had a Bayonetta anime.
It's called Ghost Sweeper Mikami and... um... I was very attentive to it, back in the day.

Well, I just saw the trailer. Those 90 seconds probably have more keyframes than all of Gantz and Burst Angel put together, so that's something. Of course, it's a movie, so of course there's a bump in animation quality.

I suppose I will try!

It's the explicit rendering of shadows (normal anime has simpler shading), dark tone, high contrast cell-shading, the way it shines and glitters (especially the lips), the way they draw the characters with high noses and puffy lips, its focus on sensual shots... yada yada.
Mmmm, I'd say ecchi and hentai look pretty different from this, really. Usually there's a blander palette (due both to shoestring budget and to not having to give a fuck), and everyone to be very...reflective. You mentioned the glittering lips - which from what I can tell is really a reasonable exaggeration of how how real makeup looks - but in ecchi (when they have the budget to afford it), the girls are blushing...all the time...on their breasts. It's bizarre as hell, but anywhere there's a nice tasty curve, there's a splotch of a blush-mark and the sparkle from what I can only assume is some stealthily applied baby oil.

The art style reminds me more of Ghost in the Shell. Which I suppose you could argue is ecchi...=P

I dont know how well such a combat heavy game will translate into anime, it may end up like Afro Samurai. Nice animation and cool battles but little or no depth to the plot.

Glad they are using Bayonetta 1 character designs rather than the shockers from Bayonetta 2... which I will eventual get when I get round to buying that wiiU.

Gonzo made Afro Samurai and Highlanders too. I just don't dig this style very much I guess? Still gonna watch it though, because Bayonetta!

Is it just me or do anime characters look kind of gross with lips? It makes them look kind of off...

I concur, personally. A large number of people seem to feel the quality of an anime hinges primarily on how Western it is.

I normally prefer Madhouse produced stuff over Gonzo but this looks nice I'll definitely watch it, but I'm skeptical after hating the Devil May Cry Anime.

I find it kinda strange that the anime seems to be taking itself waaay more seriously then the game did. The game seemed to embrace it's goofy concept and was always winking at us. The trailer seems to be acting like this is all fo' serious yo.

Then again, it does look a lot like the Devil May Cry anime.

Also, where the hell is the Bayonetta theme? That jazzy number they played so much in the game?

Isn't it already an anime? I mean its got the JPOP and everything. Lame dialogue, over the top fighting sequences and lots of sexualization? That is anime.

It should have been Shaft.
Shaft is love.

Average production studio with a hard to transcript story, yeah I'm going to watch it but my expectations aren't to high.
I do however believe that it could lend its self to the format really well so I'm somewhere in the middle.

Hahaha...... No! The story of Bayonetta was batshit insane and stupid. The game was great because of the insanely fluid and hectic combat. Without that it's kinda pointless.

Yes, let's make a narrative driven experience out of this cluster of nonsense.
Because we've never seen that in anime before, right? :D
No, and it won't be the last either.
And it will still suck either way. Some things just need to do their own thing, not be jammed into a format they clearly weren't made for.

I'm getting sick of serialized anime, but I know this will never change. If you can't hook your audience each week, you're just wasting money. Easiest way to hook is to use cliffhangers and TO BE CONTINUEDs. How I wish for a new monster of the week show. Or hell, someone just make another vignette series like Cowboy Bebop. I really hope Space Dandy is good.

I doubt it will be anything amazing or special, but it certainly looks like a nice gory fanservice-y popcorn flick. So basically just like the game.

I'm not really too fond of Gonzo other than Afro Samurai but I will at least check out the first episode.

Either way it won't suprise me if the anime will be ecchi and has alot of fan service like the game.

I think its because anime characters already look different to humans, but giving them lips makes them familiar enough for them to be tipped into the uncanny valley for some people (like you and me). Others as you said may just like it because they look western. I think the lips are forgiveable as long as the eyes aren't too big. Tales of Destiny's Harold is a prime example of creepy big lips.

After seeing the trailer the Bayonetta anime, I'm a little more excited for it but still unsure if it will be any good since it's a video game-licensed anime.

Besides that, wouldn't putting a lollipop in your cleavage be very uncomfortable, atleast without the wrapping on it.

That looks unsanitary and sticky.

I predict the anime is going to be terrible, but I'll enjoy it anyways since I like Bayo. It can't be worse than the DMC anime.
