I criticize political correctness whenever someone gives me a little "you cant say that" or "its rude to say handi-capped, we say physically impaired" or whatever I ask them why it matters, and why they should decide what we call these people. Either way its going to mean the same thing, there is no need to change it EVERY SINGLE TIME someone gets a little offended. Plus it only shows who actually thinks of these people as different, and feel they are so weak they need to be protected or whatever, seriously being PC is like being that 13 year old boy on a shooter "protecting" the girl gamer..... It really irks me since im generally nice to people, and then someone has to act like I just punched an old lady in the face for using an "old" pc term or referring to them in any other way

Oh, god.

This is pretty much what I would say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IYx4Bc6_eE

Having some tool get uppity about the term 'black' as opposed to 'african-american', is a price worth paying to facilitate the reduction of actual racial slurs.

And don't think for one second that people gasping when you speak is a form of censorship, people can still think and say what they want.

Yes, pretty much... Would "PC" include my views on other peoples religious beliefs... Well actually, all religious beliefs? :{o

Other than being careful with race and not using the "N" word, not really, at least not unironically. I for one am for clarity of speech and agree with Yahtzee that political correctness only serves to push us apart and breed hatred.

I stopped trying to be, caring about being, politically correct when the terms "Male/Female" in terms of cables changed to "Jack/Plug".

I try not to be politically correct because it drives me nuts, I like being horrifically lude, it gives everyone something to talk about.
I drop the N bomb all the time, never at people in a derogatory way but as in the "Hi" way and generally when I'm clowning around.

Infact, that's been a favorite goodmorin' for a while. I used to live with a strict Christian, even she found it hilarious when I'd stroll into the room and just let it out.
I'd rather not be politically correct, it's makes language less colourful.

I don't get into situations where I have to discuss race, gender, disabilities, etc. very often, so I don't have an official policy on words that happen to have a relationship with the concept of political correctness.

However, the idea that something can be politically correct or incorrect doesn't comply with the idea of a free society.

Never. I'm not racist or homophobic but, I do express my freedom of speech.

Just for fun, to quote the next winner of the Darwin Award (he said that he's starting a "war" on 4chan), "Being a racist, Nahzzi (that's how he pronounced it!), is not free speech". A cookie to how ever tells me who said this! Here's a major hit, he's a 12 year old HOMO.

So what if I call a black person black? It's not like they are not. After all people have called me many things in the past which aren't really bad (hairy, nearsighted, eccentric, etc.) and they never bothered me.

In my opinion political correctness was redundantly invented out of people's stupidity to not give them an excuse to fight each other like morons.

Straw-man, false dichotomy, utilitarianism, assuming the point at issue, ad homonym attack and personal insult. I am not a fan of this man.

EDIT: That is, I am not a fan of Stewart Lee. Didn't mean to be abrasive to ReSpawn.

Political correctness is complete crap. You say whatever you want when you want. You cant suppress someone opinion no matter how hard the government try to.

Never, the entire concept of it deserves to painfully and slowly die, then get dumped in a hole at some garbage dump, get urinated on and set on fire...

I hate political correctness, it doesn't prevent racism and sexism... it frickin' promotes it by making people sooo much more aware of it!
I call black people black... "African-American" doesn't apply unless they're American black people, you know. If you're black and find it racist to be called so, or you're Asian and find that racist, or god forbid you're white and find that racist, you're a moron. No matter who race you are..

For your interest, I'm not racist, if you're nice I won't have anything on you, but if you're an ass and furthermore promotes "Political Correctness", then go away..

I only do it at certain times. Sometimes there is someone I want to be neat around, or not sound like a jackass.

I don't understand how 'little people' is better than midget.
It isn't. My stepdad is a police officer, and I asked him about the subject once. Turns out he isn't allowed to use any terms that make the person seem different. He says there is a complicated system for calling people 'Special needs', which is wrong apparently. As 'special' may have negative connotations.

I don't go out of my way to offend people, but I wont be PC just for the sake of it. If what I want to say will offend someone, then so be it.

However, zealous political correctness really gets my goat.

By giving people who are seen as different in some way their own special terminology, protecting them from any "normal" people out there by way of rules and such, you're pretty much telling them that they are too weak to fend for themselves in society, and that they need the help to get by. Which is even more insulting than not being PC in my book.

That may have seemed a little garbled, but meh I'm not a writer :p The guy on the Penn & Teller: Bullshit episode about college put it better than I can.

Fast forward to 6:00 for truth.

See, this is where things get difficult and needlessly ridiculous.

I don't understand why there is a need to be politically correct. Our society is obsessed with not making anybody feel "bad."
