Poll: Best Age of Empires Game

I've been flicking through some of my old PC games and I landed upon my collection of Age of Empires games. Personally loving the whole series, I put it to you my fellow Escapists, which Age of Empires game do you feel is the best?

I checked the search bar and nothing came up under this, sorry if I'm wrong.

I love both AOE 2 and AOM. Sadly, when I got AOE 2 I was too young and stupid for the multiplayer, so most of my best memories are playing awesome RPGs and custom scenarios in AOM.

Besides, who doesn't like a crocodile which shoots solar beams as a weapon?

I played Age of Empires the most, Age of Empires until I finished it all, and barely touched Age Of Empires 3.
so I'll have to say Age Of Empires 2.
that was a -Fun- Game.

Age of Mythology for me. It easily had the best level editor, so you started seeing some incredible campaigns, scenarios, and even RPGs coming out. I couldn't go back to AoE 2 after playing a full 3-D RTS.

It was a close one between II and Mythology. I can't find II, and I have had tons of technical problems with it. I have two copies of the original game, and two The Conquers expansions for it because when AoE II wouldn't install, I had to buy them together to get the original game. So I gave it to AoM.

AoE2 and Age of Mythology were great games. AoE3 was completley out to lunch.

Age of Empires II. I still play it from time to time. It's the best RTS to date, IMO.

Age of Empires 2. I remember spawning hundreds of units just to see them get demolished by catapults.

Age of Empires II is one of the best games I've ever played. Just re-installed it on my pc.
The first one wasn't bad either, but the second is just pure win.
The third one should've never been made though. It's not bad, but it is still a disgrace to the franchise.

I loved AOE 3. First one I have ever played, so perhaps I am a little biased.

I've only played AoE 3, but I love playin' it.

I just figured out how to run AOEII on my mac without the disc (change your hard drive name to "Age of Empires II" if you were wondering) so I've been playing it a lot lately. I loved I but II is so much better imo. My buddy used to play online hardcore and was showing me all the online strategies he used to use.

I can't decide between II and III. Mostly because they're pretty different games, but both rather fun.

I found that after playing Age Of Mythology for ages, I couldn't play Age of Empires I any more, mostly because the graphics were of a lower standard. It's a petty complaint, I know.
I've never played AOE3, I spent most of my time on the original using cheats and I really enjoyed AOEII and AOM. I'll pick the latter though because the gameplay additions just make it better IMHO.

Now if only I had the ability to play on a decent difficulty setting...

AOE II, followed by AOE I and AOM each on second place. AOE III was a bitter dissapointment to me, they kinda sacrificed gameplay, balance and some variety for graphics.

Recently finished the SP for AoE3, and quite enjoyed it.
