My Winamp just crashed randomly for the 8th time since ive been using it for afew years, and im sick of it. It crashes and then I have to reinstall as it wont open or anything and just sits in background sucking processing power and doing nout.

So as I was reading the browser thread and redownloading Winamp, thought id ask you what you use or can reccomend to me?

I use(d) Winamp because its small and didnt take up too much computer juice as I sometimes play games along with music. I prefer it over iTunes as it playes a more varied range of filetypes, and most of my old music is in .wma from when I was backupping CDs with Windows Media Player.

Anyone got anything to reccomend thats decent I havn't heard of thats liteweight and nice range of file associations? Or just wanna shout your undying love for iTunes.

I go with iTunes. To stick things on my iPod. Otherwise Realplayer so I don't get Windows copyright stuff and can lump it on my phone.

I just use Window's Media Player because it came with the computer. I didnt see the point of installing other music playing software because it is "better"... im pretty sure its playing the same music.

I use iTunes, but I refuse to use the store to buy anything bar single songs, as I can get albums/videos much cheaper in shops/internet.

VLC media player. Simple and somewhat unintuitive, but I keep it handy because it plays every audio format known to man and some that haven't been discovered yet. I use iTunes for regular music though.

I like to use Spotify, but as a part-time DJ I need mp3s. For that I use a program called Mixxx or just plain old iTunes.

I use the Zune software because it sorts music very well, but when I hook up my uber-fancy headphones I'll use WMP because it has a very nice equalizer.

I still use winamp, mostly out of habit (and hate for WMP).
Works well though, never had any problems with crashes and/or ability to play strange formats.
But I must admit that I use youtube quite a lot these days.

For video I use VLC, does the trick every time.

I used iTunes, and then switched to Winamp. After about four months or so, I'm straight back with iTunes. Winamp is unfriendly, unintuitive and doesn't work well with iPods. I think I like it when things're just simple.

Winamp. I don't care what you say, WMP just sucks. Winamp has alot more features, both easier and faster to use and still takes less memory/process power. And it looks better. iTunes is better then WMP, but whenever I open it my computer seems to come to a screeching halt. Plus, I can't stand any program I'm forced to use.

Edit: Ohh, and Winamp makes my G15 blink in tact with my music, which is awesome :D

I've heard good things about Songbird, might be worth checking out.

iTunes

Not that I'm a fan of Apple, but I do have a tiny iPod and honestly, it's the most stable AND efficient piece of music listening software I've ever used.

WMP sucks ass at sorting, winamp is too bulky and has a bad UI.

I have never even heard of Foobar. o_O I wonder what kinda player that one is. But I usually use my Winamp for music listening. I did use iTunes for awhile but it shitted me so badly I had to change back to Winamp. Sometimes I also use Windows Media Player Classic for listening to music (mostly I use it for watching videos) cos it's kinda nifty. :3

Cheers for afew suggestions, tried out Songbird and retried Foobar.

Songbird is(n't but feels) bulky, my music collection is on the large size and when clicking on large albums or changing genres its abit chuggy. Also wouldn't minimize to tray, even after addons which were specific for that purpose.

Foobar is wonderfully fast, whacked in afew addons but my media keys dont seem to work with it which is a huge downside. Macromedia keyboards media keys are abit weird, had afew probs in past. If I can get these working ill be using that but couldn't last time IIRC. which is why I went back to Winamp last time.

Personally, I use iTunes but Media Player in my opinion is the best as you can get .WAV files on it and it comes as standard on most computers. I only use iTunes cause I have an iPod.
