As a Brit myself, I've listened to a fair amount, and I would have to say that Radiohead and Coldplay have to be my favourites.

No Pink Floyd = blasphemy.
I would have said them, but they're pre-80s, aren't they?
Then again, they still did some music after 1980, so I don't know what they'd class as. >_<

I've loved Muse since they started, my vote has to go to them...Radiohead coming in second.

I've got to mention 12 Stone Toddler too, though. Fairly new British band who aren't very big, but I love their stuff.

Out of that lot I vote Muse, my favourite British band at the moment however is [small]Enter Shikari[/small].
I've been mentioning that band waaay too often, I feel like a broken record, but they are awesome.

Where the hell is Iron Maiden?
As much as I love Iron Maiden, weren't they formed in 1975? Plus, you got to admit they don't have the widespread appeal of the others in the list. These bands on the list sort of sum up the British sound, which is exclusive to these isles, whereas you could say Iron Maiden go hand in hand with the 70's rockers of America.

My vote goes to Muse. Brilliant live band and pretty inventive guitar and bass. Pretty cool they're beating all but Other atm.

MIA from this list are Maiden, The Cure, Suede, Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics. Oh and the Prodigy.
Metal is a british invention (inspired by blues and hard rock granted)and you`re disqualifying it on the basis that it`s similar to american music??? also muse follow a similar path (not quite as heavy granted)but still. WTF???!!!!!!!!

I would also vote for Iron Maiden if there ever was an option.
Blur were one of the biggest Brit Pop acts of the 90s, before breaking up sometime after the Millenium. The only famous member from them nowadays is Damon Albarn (Currently in Gorrilaz and co-wrote the opera Monkey: Journey To The West), a very good artist, both musically and visually.

I voted for Radiohead, but it's hard to decide with so many British acts that are good (Enter Shikari, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Dragonforce...) it's hard to limit them down to just 8 acts.

However, I would like to ask the following questions:

1- Why haven't anyone put Joy Division?
2- Why haven't anyone put The Who?
3- Why do you say everything pre-1980 sucks, when this includes The Beatles (the most successful band in the world ever) and Led Zeppelin (Who have been described as the best band of the 70s)?

1.A good question
2.The who were in a massive decline by the 80`s
3.OP bias i would have thought

I voted for Muse, who just happen to be one of my favourite bands of all time.
The poll does seem a little broken though; U2 are technically not a British band, the Artic Monkeys haven't contributed anything major to the progression of music (except for a load of carbon copy bands hoping to mke the lightening strike again).
There are too many big British bands from the 80's to put in a poll where there are only eight or nine spaces.

True, The Who did seriously drop after the death of Keith Moon.

The fact The Smiths doesn't appear on your list yet Muse does means you are dead to me.

What the hell is wrong with people? When are you going to stop trying to make polls about bands when it's obvious that you're only able to target a fraction of the entire community?
