Well, how clever...smart-aleck, valve developed half-life, whereas microsoft published age of empires. There is a difference.Indigo_Dingo said:If we're going by that, Valve didn't make Half Life, it was the contributions of a number of individuals.BolognaBaloney said:Nope, thats ensemble studioslacktheknack said:They made Age of Empires, at least.harhol said:Microsoft didn't make any of these games.TruthMan said:3)Microsoft: Fable,Halo,Gears, conker, Perfect Dark, age of empires
Yes, and there were 2 age of empires before mythology, so microsoft didn't make age of empires, they owned ensemble when they made the third, but they did not create the series, or the first two games for that matter.Indigo_Dingo said:When Age of Mythology was published, Ensemble were a part of Microsoft.BolognaBaloney said:Well, how clever...smart-aleck, valve developed half-life, whereas microsoft published age of empires. This is the part where you admit that you were wrong: they didn't create the series, or the first game, or the second game, only the third. So as a whole, the series was NOT made by microsoft.Indigo_Dingo said:But they did make the third.BolognaBaloney said:Yes, and there were 2 age of empires before mythology, so microsoft didn't make age of empires, they owned ensemble when they made the third, but they did not create the series, or the first two games for that matter.Indigo_Dingo said:When Age of Mythology was published, Ensemble were a part of Microsoft.BolognaBaloney said:Well, how clever...smart-aleck, valve developed half-life, whereas microsoft published age of empires. Right, but it also does NOT make them the creator of the series, so your still wrong.Indigo_Dingo said:No, but one of the games was made by Microsoft. Obsidian didn't make KOTOR, they made KOTOR II. The fact that they didn't make the first one doesn't nullify the fact that they made the second.BolognaBaloney said:This is the part where you admit that you were wrong: they didn't create the series, or the first game, or the second game, only the third. And the third is still generally considered the worst out of the series. Not exactly making Microsoft look good.Indigo_Dingo said:But they did make the third.BolognaBaloney said:Yes, and there were 2 age of empires before mythology, so microsoft didn't make age of empires, they owned ensemble when they made the third, but they did not create the series, or the first two games for that matter.Indigo_Dingo said:When Age of Mythology was published, Ensemble were a part of Microsoft.BolognaBaloney said:Well, how clever...smart-aleck, valve developed half-life, whereas microsoft published age of empires. Gotta correct you there, Bungie are no longer affiliated with Microsoft.TruthMan said:Must i repeat myselfBolognaBaloney said:Haha i know, funny isn't it, and yet these are some of the biggest games from the microsoft camp.harhol said:Microsoft didn't make any of these games.TruthMan said:3)Microsoft: Fable,Halo,Gears, conker, Perfect Dark, age of empires
Microsoft game studios is a branch of Microsoft. Epic, Lionhead, Rare, and NowBungieare all branches as well
But continuing a series does not make you the creator of it.Indigo_Dingo said:I'm not trying to, I'm making a point. People keep missing the difference of what constitutes a publisher and what constitutes a developer. If the development team is a part of the company, then the credit and blame still does go to the company.YuheJi said:And the third is still generally considered the worst out of the series. Hold on. Just because a development team is a subsidiary of a publishing company does not mean that the games put out were developed by the company. The development team is the developer, and the company is the publisher. In this case, Ensemble is the developer and Microsoft is the publisher.Indigo_Dingo said:I'm not trying to, I'm making a point. Thank you, i've been trying to tell him that for a long time.YuheJi said:Hold on. That would be like saying Take Two developed Sid Meier's Railroads or the two Civ IV expansion packs, because Take Two bought Firaxis back in 2005. Or like Take Two developed BioShock, because they bought 2K Boston and 2K Australia in 2006. Credit goes where credit is due, and it should be to the developers.
Again you don't seem to understand that while ensemble was part of microsoft for 3, the first 2 they were not. So microsoft still can not be credited with creating the series, only with producing the third.Indigo_Dingo said:When they're bought, the developers are considered a part of the company, just like when hired, the individuals are considered part of the developerYuheJi said:Hold on. By that logic, then it should not be Relic up there, but THQ; not BioWare, but EA. In fact, the only two private developers on the poll are Valve and id, with Bethesda being both a publisher and developer.Indigo_Dingo said:When they're bought, the developers are considered a part of the company, just like when hired, the individuals are considered part of the developer
