Loved Cortana. Unpopular opinion, but the Cortana level on Halo 3 was one of the most enjoyable portions of the game while playing on Legendary. Never has a difficulty achievement given me so much satisfaction.

People seem unable to spell GLaDOS correctly. I am disappoint.

Also, no Tali on the list? What is this blasphemy?!

Kreia, for very obvious reasons and I'm actually shocked she hasn't been mentioned in the poll, since she is one of the most developed, complex and unpredictable character in gaming history.

Maybe Fall-From-Grace, for being the only succubus with a journal :).

Kreia from Kotor 2 needs to be in the poll. I would have her in my top 5 non player characters all time

Shouldn't GlaDOS not be on this list? It's a supercomputer with a female voice, not exactly a woman by any standard definition.
I was thinking the same thing.

Also, there are so many versions of Zelda (and a significant number of whom are complete non-characters) that I'd argue the same for her.

YES. Kreia is completely awesome.

I should play KOTOR 2 again. I love that game.

Therese Voerman from Vampire Bloodlines I can't explain why without spoilers, but she's a magnificent character.

Kreia. Quite an interesting character. Doesn't give a damn about anyone but the main character, and keeps manipulating people into helping him/her rather than resorting to the traditional band-of-brothers-type motivation that most RPGs default to.

She's also rather far from being a sex symbol.
I agree! and the banter between her and Atton makes the game

Big fan of Tali. She's very well developed (disbarring the first game where she was just kind of there) as well as sympathetic, and she can be damned funny, too. Liara also gets an honorable mention for similar reasons, though I found her slightly less likable.
And I agree with you also!

The best female NPC is my strider pawn in Dragon`s Dogma. She pulls of awesome moves and survives. She keeps trouble away from my mage pawns and isn`t shy to give helpfull advice. Oh, and she`s sweet looking too.

As for the poll i voted Elena. I just like her and her banter with Drake.

i agree that jack has a huge amount of layers and is a very deep character so she is definitely high on the list out of the games i have played, although kasumi did have a really nice story, it would have been nice if it was expanded more

I'm gonna go the Atlus angle and say Naoto Shirogane.

Well-educated and affluent detective despite her age.
Legally empowered to make arrests and own a gun.
Persona user with a mind as sharp as Motoko Kusinagi.

I voted for the Boss. But I'd like to note; Despite over-sexualization from fans, I think Tifa was a pretty good female character. At the time, it wasn't really common to see a female character outside of the healer or spellcaster/long-range fighter role. Although, it probably would have helped if she had actually worn an entire shirt.

The Boss. Definitely. She was such a tragic character - had an unwavering loyalty to her country and mission, but ended up just chewed up and spat out afterwards.

Also, completely badass.

I voted for Alyx, because she seems so real.

I still remember, vividly, the moment that Gordon first meets her in Half-Life 2 and we see the source engine's (at the time impressive) ability to animate faces: I found myself thinking "wow! she looks... human"

On reflection, I think that she was so well written, animated and acted that I considered her and Eli as people rather than characters.

Also, a quick mention to Cate Archer from the No-one Lives Forever games; she was brilliant, too.
