For me, it's Halo and the Half-Life games. Both have some of the best damn stories and the finest combat I've played. :3 I can't stand modern shooters. Bleh.

Out of those choices(which you need to add to) I say CoD. Not going with those options, however, I'd say it's a tie between Halo and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for me. I've had many long hours of fun with both so it's hard to choose just one.

How many threads have we seen with this EXACT SAME TOPIC, or at least a similar theme of "Best thing ever..."? The poll options are always limited and always just things the OP likes. Besides, almost no one actually provides an objective critique of what the "real" best thing ever is. It's always just subjective opinion. (like most of my list)

So, um...yeah. Whatever. :/

I almost listed the MechWarrior games, but they're more simulators than first-person shooters. (even though you shoot things from a first-person perspective)

I don't like first person shooters. For me that's like choosing between bad and worse.

I guess Portal isn't too bad. I really, really dislike first person shooters, though.

Don't take this the wrong way; as I know you've been "under fire" lately; and I'm certainly not attacking you (or even singling you out), but I have to ask:

If you revile the genre of FPS so much, why bother making the effort to post that fact in a thread devoted to the discussion of what people consider to be "the best" in the genre? What purpose does it serve for you or for those in the discussion?

The only reason I ask is because I see this exact sort of thing all the time on this forum. Hell, just knowing topics will be derailed or twisted into something else has caused me to join threads I wasn't interested in in the first place. (and I hated myself for it afterward)

I mean, if someone started a "Which Final Fantasy is the best?!" thread, I wouldn't post anything because...well...I'm not a fan of the series. Ergo, I have nothing really to add to the discussion.

If you revile the genre of FPS so much, why bother making the effort to post that fact in a thread devoted to the discussion of what people consider to be "the best" in the genre? What purpose does it serve for you or for those in the discussion?

I guess for the same reason that people like to come in threads I like, but thread they personally don't, to show personal disgust towards female characters, young characters, otaku, anime, shoot em' ups, and Japanese video games in general.

I would normally prefer to post in threads I care about. And ignore ones I don't. But I do not appear to be able to do that. The Escapist only appears to be interested in talking about the around %10 I do not much care for or even outright dislike. And when I make a thread about something different, they flame it endlessly. I only really have the option of being a dissenter, it would appear. So I had might as well be dissenting as possible and not pull back my punches. Maybe if I'm as negative towards Western gaming as people are towards Eastern gaming, the mods will get angry enough at me to permaban me and you won't have to worry about it anymore. I'm honestly tired of being nice. Playing nice doesn't work.

You see threads like this? This is what tends to dominate the first page. What chance to I have to ignore them unless I leave the site permanently?

Battlefield and Call of Duty have been getting worse the older they get so those are out. For MP FPS's? I'll say Killzone. Killzone 2 mind you; Killzone 3 was an abomination.

Well, have you seen me do that? Pretty sure I haven't. Unless, of course, someone hacked my account or I've been sleep-posting. Man, that would be weird. <.<

Anyway, I know how you feel. Believe me, I get annoyed with the Escapist community from time to time as well. Usually when it's the same group of people posting the same "complaining/whining/bitching" threads over-and-over-and-over again. (Like the weekly "Steam sucks" threads, or the monthly "Fuck COD", or the flood of similar threads during a new game release (like Skyrim or ME3))

Just remind yourself that not all of us are like that. Some of us understand the concepts of differing opinions. And, the concept of not shoving our opinions down others throats. (or telling them they're wrong for liking/not-liking the same things as us)
