Poll: Best Halo Game?

There seems to be a lot of controversy regarding the Halo series. My friend, who loved Halo since its release date, favors the first of the series (Halo: Combat Evolved). Others seem to favor Halo 3 for its interesting Campaign and for the creation of Forge. Some hold high hopes for future Halo games, like ODST (aka RECON). Which one do you think deserves to be called "The Best Halo Game?" Alternatively, which one is the least deserving of the title? No flame wars, just straight up answers and justifications.

Combat Evolved was my favorite, played it for hours.

I think the best one is Halo: CE. After that, everything went to hell in a handbasket

Halo 2, the multiplayer was ground breaking in many respects and it really pushed the concept of xbox live. Though story wise it wasn't the best the multiplayer made up for it in my book.
