GBA every time - Advance Wars, Lord Of The Rings Two towers (Or handheld Diablo as it should be called),Zelda Minish Cap, the entire back catalogue of GB/GBC games. Still prefer it to that lifestyle toy they're hawking about at the moment-what's it called again?

Game Boy Advance.

Ports of classic SNES and NES titles, not to mention a superior library of original games, and translations of games from what were previously from Japan-only series.

I put my vote for the Game Gear. Which - to me - had beaten the GBA SP by a good ten years, if I'm not honestly mistaken.

Plus as a kid I played that thing to death.

I'd have to go with the PSP. Phenomenal graphics for a handheld console. On top of that, it has some really decent games, and some of the really hard to get psone games have been re-released on psp, so now I can finally play those games I missed out on all those years ago.

It was good, but damn that thing ate through batteries like it was nobody's business.
Also, the graphics for GBA are alot better than the Game Gear, as the GG only went up to 32 bits. Still, at the time for a handheld, that was damn impressive. Better than anything Nintendo had out at the time.

Gameboy Color, followed closely by GBA and DS in that order.

I owned 4 games for my Gameboy Color. Pokemon R/B/Y and Silver. I played the holy hell out of those games.

Yes sir, it did suck through batteries like a starved gremlin and was impressive.

The way I see it though, it really just paved the way for the GBA SP to happen. It just took till 1997 - the year Sega dropped support for the Game Gear - for Nintendo to see an interest in developing the GBA SP.

Had to go for PSP. It's not just the games and ability to watch UMDs on the go too but being able to play old school PS1 games swung it for me.

Game Boy Advance. Why? Because not only did it have a great library of kick ass games, it also had access to every game on the GBC and GB.

In short that one handheld could play pretty much every one of Nintendo's handheld games. That makes it the best handheld ever in my opinion.

Now why did you have to go and do that. I had my killing arm all warmed up. I even rubbed 'heat cream - murder edition' into it, and shi(ver me)t(imbers) that stuff is expensive.

EDIT: Good job pointing out the (now directing at OP) OBVIOUS LACK OF GOLDEN SUN GAMES ON YOUR LIST!!!

OT:
GBA for golden sun and FFTA
PSP for FFVII: Crisis Core (I really should get the Final fantasy tactics game for it, just so i have more than one game)

I love my DS, don't get me wrong, but the GBA was the greatest handheld ever. Give the DS a few more years though, and I think it could surpass it.

I quite liked the DS with my flash drive. Free games for ever and ever and amen. It was pretty cool.

I liked Clubhouse games and playing with a bunch of friends in class.
