i know that OOT is supposed to be the best but i never played it when i was young. therefore no nostalgia for me. so i think the better game is twilight princess.

Link to the Past rocked because of the integration of light and dark worlds the first time and nearly every Legend of Zelda game tries to rip off with the exception of Majora's Mask since it only had the one world and the really mad moon. Even if the first was cool Link to the Past is the best in the series for consoles for hand held games I pick Link's Awakening for no reason except its the only one i played and it had weird level design where it temporarily turned into Mario with swords.

Um, EXCUUUUSE me, but where is A Link to the Past? Just because it's old, sheesh. Fair enough we have the Wii and N64 games, but to waste space on the GBA versions is a bit much.

Definitely definitely A Link to the Past! I love how the poll is pick one of these or... screw you! Wheres the 'other' option. You realize theres more than those right? :p
This. Seriously. You're missing out on an amazing game.

(In saying this though, OoT comes second. But I'm abstaining from the vote on principle.)

If you voted OoT and it was the first Zelda you ever played. You've got nostalgia goggles on.

If you've played other zeldas first and still voted OoT, okay your perspective is more clear and that's your opinion.

But sheesh people, just because it was the first you played when you were a little kid, doesn't make it instantly the best. Take a step back, take the nostalgia goggles off, then make a judgement :p

If I chose based on my first Zelda game, I'd be picking Legend of Zelda from the NES, not only is it not a choice (apparently the OP doesn't realize there were Zelda games made before 1998 btw), but I can look at it and say, hey they've made tons of upgrades and improvements to the series.

god, is this even a question? ocarina of time!
Yeah, no question whatsoever. Majorah's mask was good too, but ocarina of time is the blueprint for all good zelda games.

I'd go with Link to the Past, and then Link's Awakening. Both of which are strangely absent from the list. Of the newer Zelda's I'd say I like Wind Waker the best. I never really enjoyed Ocarina of Time, it was too glitchy, the camera sucked, the controls sucked, the story was boring, and everything I had heard about it before it came out got my hopes far too elevated. "Oh, it'll take the gaming equivalent of weeks to cross the map!" Oh, it actually takes about one game day to go from the Goron Village to Lake Hylia on foot, quarter of a day on horse back. Oh, and the Forest Temple and the Water Temple are still two of the most annoying levels I've ever played in a game. Twilight Princess, from what I played was about the same as Ocarina of Time, plus furries.

Being a huge fan of the series as a whole, I'm unable to pick a single one. My top 3 would probably consist of Twillight Princess, OOT and Majora's Mask. But Wind Waker and the handheld Zelda's follow up very close.

I absolutely cannot pick a favorite! In all honesty the only ones I didn't like were the cel-shaded ones.

OoT, but Taerdin might have a point:

I honestly don't think thats Wind Waker, I think thats ANY Zelda game. Once you play one, the others are basically the same and therefore less fun. The first one always seems the best. Or maybe I'm just completely insane! :p
OoT was my first, and i LOVED IT

This is the 15th 'Which is the best Zelda game' thread I have replyed to since I came to the escapist and my answer will always be the same. Ocarina of Time because it did just about did everything perfect and more. It didn't have deep story's or transformations like in Majora's Mask but it did have awesome design and probably the best temples out of all Zelda games.

Too true, But i just wish the main villain wasn't Gannondorf.

Just once...
In Phantom Hourglass it's not Gannondorf, and he's not the main villain in Minish Cap or Four Swords I think either (It's Vaati but he's controlled by Gannondorf in at least FSA).. and he's only a shadow/illusion in one phase of the last boss of Link's Awakening.

Where's Links Awakening? That game rocked back in the day.
Links awaking was the best 2d zelda, in terms of story and characters and levels. i will debate this with anyone.

MM was the best zelda in terms of story and characters, so what if it was short. Every character had a cool personality, and the world was my second favorite (windwaker had the best world by far). MM also had the best side quests in a zelda game ever.

why would you say that wind waker was a great game. not to like a game because of graphics seems to me stupid, game play level design, and story should be what you want from a zelda game, which wind waker was way better then twilight princess.
