Well metal, in general, incorporates alot of other sub-genres, one of them being Prog-Metal. And seeing how Rush is usually classified as Prog-Metal, I'm going to have to say Neil Peart, the greatest drummer alive.

Okay, let me tell you this. Lars Ulrich is not a metal drummer. This might sound strange, but Metallica isn't a metal band. And since Lars Ulrich is (only) a part of Metallica, he isn't a metal drummer either.
