Or, more likely, not. A series is likely to shift consoles only once (as it entices all those who are intruiged by the series to the console) unless it undergoes a massive change - Gears 2 is appealing to the people who already have a 360, and so isn't going to increase sales of the 360, while the Ps3 is showing off LittleBigplanet - something that hasn't been tried before. And the actual numbers were closer to 2.5 million against 2.2 million.
In your head. In the real world, even an incrementally different sequel can be a massive console driver if the public interest for it is high enough.

And LittleBigPlanet's sales have hardly been earth-shattering, having shifted only around 400,000 units in two weeks. Fallout 3 moved around 4 million in a week, Gears 2, as pointed out, 2.1 million in on day.

And even at 300,000 units a quarter, the PS3 will take five years to get out of last place.

When the PS3 was released I laid down a prophecy, that one day when the console proved itself to me, I would purchase it. It seems that day came with LittleBigPlanet.

Really. So, according to you, there were 2 million people who said "I would get the Xbox 360 just for Gears of War, if only it had an endurance mode and a handheld shield. Without that, its not worth my time at all."
No, that's just you putting words in my mouth. Very dishonest of you, I must say. But what will happen is that the marketing push given to Gears 2 will catch some of the people who have as yet not considered purchasing a console, because the vast majority of people don't buy things unless they are told about them by advertising.

And do you really think that the next year will be the same as this one in terms of releases and subsequent sales? With the 360 leading its year with a retarded game?
Microsoft's biggest announcement for next year so far is a new Halo game. And we know they never sell, right?

Not really...

The hype for the first was so intense and prolonged, just who exactly do you think managed to miss it and yet has been looking for a game just like it?
The majority of videogame sales are not to people who were looking for a particular kind of game, or indeed a videogame at all, they are to the average person who might once in a while be tempted to play one, but doesn't actually think about what they want to play, they only know about big names. Also, the other main difference between Gears 1 and now is that the Xbox 360 is a lot cheaper now, so people who might have been tempted first time but not have the disposable income for a new console can look at the new prices and think "you know, for that much, I might just go for it".

Its not a Halo game in the sens of being an FPS, its a Halo spin off, a console RTS.
You must have missed Halo 3: Recon then. Which has already gotten more attention and push than Wars.

LBP is like Play-Doh, you can create whatever you want with it, within it's physical limitations.
And then dad comes and tells you to stop making willies. Or anyone else's IP. Which rather spoils the fun of it all.

Heres my thoughts: Take a look at the list of ps3 exslusives for next year/if pushed back 2010. There are about 10 worthy ones not to mention to cross-platform ps3/pc The Agency and that universe game.

- Mass Effect 2
- Alan Wake
- Ninety-Nine Nights 2
- Ninja Blade
- All Points Bulletin
- Huxley
- Halo Wars
- Project Forza 3

Shockingly small isn't it? Huxley, Mass Effect and Alan wake. But seeing as Huxley is getting a kick in the crotch by MAG or if it every gets finished.

(I didn't mention 4 or so side projects because as it is, I could care less until they announce something.)

Bioshock 2 will probably be on both platforms, And Age of Conan is so broken I am just going to skip it.

FF13, GoW3, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, InFamous, Killzone 2, Maybe even MAG, Twisted Metal, Yakuza 3, Maybe even Ratchet and clank future 2, And uncharted 2. This is not counting the great PSN titles either..

No Halo 3:Recon? and FF13 is multiplatform. I do like your double standard as well (in bold).

Quite. And the programming metaphor is bad. Because if it was like programming, you could do jsut about anything depending on how clever you are. You can't go and reverse the gravity in LBP. Or change the mechanics at all. The play-doh example on the other hand, is quite good. And while it's interesting and all, and cute, I don't actually care for platformers and wouldn't call it motivation to buy the PS3. It's a nice little game and all, but it's not my cup of tea.

APB? Epic! I'm sold!

Now, I'm not gonna rush out and buy a PS3 for it, but I'm certainly going to follow its progress.

Hmm, i put HD gaming one but this is not my belief. It is give and take with the best HD gaming, but may i point out that while some xbox 'exclusives' may end up on PC, this never occurs (as far as i know) from PS3 to PC. So if you want to have true exclusives the PS3 is the way to go. Bit annoyed gears 2 didnt end up on PC but hey ho we push on.

I find the "HD gaming at its best" option hilarious.
That may somewhat explain it, but I would still like the OP to explain why he put that option in the poll...
Because people find a convinient source of HD displays to watch Blu-Ray movies with their buddies right out of the box more appealing than doing research for 1080p+ HD PC gaming that is pretty much a niche for most games and only available to one person at a time because they had enough money to upgrade to 1080p+ but their friend didn't and now their friend is going to start mooching off of your PC/Blu-ray player but you're sick of his mooching?

I dunno, I always thought that people like easy to use sort of stuff that's right ouf of the box, no matter if that COD game is actually 720p or if that Pearl Harbor movie in Blu-ray is actually upscaled to 1080p (whatever that means) (also, the explosions were pretty)

But HOLD ON THERE COWBOY! We're starting a flame-war, which was inevitable anyway.
Wait, HD gaming and Blu-Ray movies are the same?!

*galumphs out of the room, while his head is dizzy*

Halo Recond is DL, FF13 for the 360 I regard as a timed exslusive. Those side projects have no none information. While Uncharted 2 and RACF2 are in production. Just not a lot of talk.

You regard same day release as timed? http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/final-fantasy-xiii-coming-to-xbox-360/

Recon is a standalone release, not part of a title update or downloadable content. It will come with new Achievements totaling 1000 Gamerscore and a new aesthetic. The single player campaign, in which your ODST will clean up a Covenant infested city in New Mombasa, will feature plenty of dark, nighttime play.

But again a double standard.

Where is Star Ocean? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Ocean:_The_Last_Hope

And "side projects" seem to have life. http://atari.com/us/games/race_pro/xbox_360

Okay you may have me on final fantasy. And I guess you have me on recon. But if we want to talk about titles that arn't big name I could pull out 10+ PSN games and 5 or so more exclusives titles that no one cares about. Also I missed a game on the list by the people who are making white knight chronicles. They have another game planned for next year maybe.

Also if the charge full price for recon I am going to laugh so hard..

Being as it is, I can't use XNA. And XBLA might as well go jump off a cliff with most of its titles just being ports from other games.

Both still have great games. While some are ports (Sonic) there are other games that are improved like PAC-MAN World Championship or Prince of Persia and there are original games like Braid.
