When I was a squirt, I played a game, given to me by my uncle. It was called Shadow Of The Colossus. It amazed and horrified me to such an extent I was scared to play it alone. The entire game was boss battles. I absolutely loved it. I still have the deep fear of seeing the Avion come down on me. Not many games were like that after that game. I gave up waiting for a game like that and enjoyed the main stream shooters and RPGs. A few days ago I downloaded the Lost Planet 2 Co-Op Demo. The same feeling I felt so many years ago was revived and I'm ready to go buy it. But here's my question. Should more games follow the path of Shadow Of The Colossus? Before you comment, I want you to watch this video to understand what I mean by big boss battles.

EDIT: Completely forgot about this one.

Shadow of the Colossus was very different from what many people enjoy. It's not super action packed and and testosterone-fueled, each Boss battle is really just one big puzzle. I do wish there was another game like that but I'll stick with there being one major gem.

Yes, there should be more really big boss battles. I loved the last battle of Bayonetta so much. And the last one of Brütal Legend. And the last of Kingdom Hearts II...

Large bosses are usually fun, but sometimes they are a let-down due to the battle not living up to what you would hope from the battle. A great example to this is the leviathan from Resistance 2. It was a complete flop, especially with how much it was built up.

I think that if done right, there should be more of them. Only if they are as epic as they are built up to be though.

Boss battles can be fun, but they're usually absolute shit and the game would have been better without them.

Bioshock's being a good example. Although making Atlas look like 'Atlas' was a nice touch, the fight was easy even on the most difficult level and wasn't necessary in the slightest.

Shadow of the Colossus has been over shadowed now in terms of size of bosses (pardon the pun)... but then again, thats really expected considering this is a new generation.

Nevertheless, Shadow of the Colossus looks like an absolutely stunning game and I wish I could play it...

Yes, I do believe games should follow in the wake of Shadow of the Colossus, epic battles are always awesome XD

Oh and by the way, you may be wandering "how could something over shadow the Colossi, Simalacrum? They're huge!"

Well... Cronos, basically.

I'm up for a big boss battle, however they must be difficult, challenging and have something about it that is worth remembering it's insane difficulty.

Like fighting MotherBrain in any Metroid game.

Big boss battles are always fun. I wonder what kind of boss battles the next castlevania game will have.

I'm fine with big boss battles in rabid action games, but they keep putting them into stealth or tactical games where all of your character's abilities are designed to be used from cover or by surprise. When the boss fights fit the game, they're good, just keep them away from my stealth games and the ones where they brag about having multiple ways to solve any problem.

I quite like scenes like that in a game but I'd rather the whole game wasn't just that - it seems like it'd get old kinda quick, since the colussus clip there (never played it) look like one big quick time event and once you solve what to do you can't be stopped.

I still hold up Tidal Wave as one of the most enjoyable and badass boss battles ever.

That's right, kids: It's an aircraft carrier that walks like a man.
