i have played both bioshock's and I can say they are both amazingly fun games. However I do find myself being a bit confused as for some reason bioshock 2 got a ton of stick as it was'nt 'as good' as bioshock 1. I personally think they are as good as each other, as the story in bioshock 1 is better and the combat in 2 is better.

Also the addition of mulitiplayer (which is actually fairly good, despite having some terrible DLC, is fun and somthing diffent than a modern 'bang-bang' FPS as you have supa powers which is awsome)

so what do you guys think? Do you agree with me that both are the same in good'ness or is one better than the other? Thanks :)

gameplay was pretty comparable, but Bioshock 1 was well-written and 2 could have been written by a child.

Bioshock 2's story sucked and the whole "all of our playerbase would LOVE to play as a big daddy" thing that devs were spouting pre-release was WAAAAYYYYYY off the mark.

It's a tough one. It's not like they improved vastly in Bioshock 2, but they did think about some stuff.

Combining Rage and Hypnotism into one was clever, just like upgrading your standart powers.

The downside is that you can't be really clever yourself, you just take a power you're comfortable with and make it better. (And they didn't add the Rage-sound, I like that sound.)

I'm not going in on Multiplay, it was a chaotic mess and I didn't like the feel of the Bioshock controls. It shouldn't matter anyway.

I'd go with 1, The story is way better and IMO the fuel in BioShock 2 went empty too fast. also, I like being a real person rather than a Big Daddy, despite how awesome Big Daddy's are.
In BioShock one there was (for me at least) this urge to explore and find out what's going on in Rapture. In BioShock 2 I personally had this feeling of 'been there, done that.'
EDIT: also, multiplayer sucked in BioShock 2. They player that got the big daddy suit wins the game, with almost no exceptions.

I liked part one to death. The combat was better in two, but that's not enough to beat a legendary game.

Bioshock, the original is sitting on top of spiderman 3 (why does spellcheck want that to be epidermal) the movie game in my pile of games i never bothered to finish. But from what I hear since it had no story to blatantly rip off it was even worse.
and now they're making a third.

both games are fantastic

bioshock 1 is all exploration and what the hell is going on here mixed in with some very very scary moments.

bioshock 2 is more well rounded combat wise, more diversity in gameplay plasmids guns or DRILL PLASMID COMBO THAT BONUCES BULLETS BACK AT ENEMIES....

but in all seriousness i very much enjoyed both games, in bio 1 the story was amazing with some somewhat repetitive at times combat, in bio 2 the story holds 2nd fiddle to the combat system which has MUCH more depth and personally defending a little sister YOUR little sister got me MUCH more attached to the games characters than in the bio 1.

its not that bioshock 2 didnt have a story its that it had a very clear objective, something bio 1 sort of lacked. by having this objective rather than being able to mull what is going on and make up your own mind and theories bioshock 2 took the creative "what the hell am i doing here" out.

this in my opinion does not take away from how good bioshock 2 is, it is just a different way of telling the story. personally, at the beginning of the game, when eleanor is taken from me forcefully i knew that this game was going to be 100% get your little girl back no matter the obstacle. for that reason i say that both games are great regardless of their stories.

plus did anyone else in bioshock 2 look forward to the eleanor voice recordings i know every time i walked up to one i hoped it'd be one of hers.

for me, gameplay for bioshock 1 was "get best Wrench perks and be OP with it"
bioshock 2: " get best drill perks and be OP with it"

both were fun, so the gameplay wasnt that different.

i didnt play multiplayer, i had games with better multiplayer (more then likely)

so if i had to choose, bioshock 1 had the better story. so bioshock won. yays.

They are both good, in their own ways.

In terms of gameplay, 2 is better.
In terms of story and setting, 1 is better.

Okay, Bioshock 1 was great. It had one of the best stories of all time, an incredible environment, and was just generally awesome. Almost all of us agree to that.

Now, Bioshock 2 wasn't that bad. I feel, actually, that Bioshock 2 was a very, very good game. All in all, it isn't quite as good as the first, but it's still great. No game has every created a larger emotional attachment between myself and its characters than Bioshock 2. The whole morality system with Eleanor was fantastic, and I still look back on it with wonder as to how good it is.

You know, I kind of feel that the big reason people don't like Bioshock 2 is the fact that it is a sequel. In other words, its greatest flaw is that it wasn't as original as its prequel. If, in some kind of parallel universe, Bioshock 1 was never released, but Bioshock 2 was(assuming it had been fixed to introduce rapture properly like the first, etc, but keeping the plotline) people probably would have loved it as much as they did Bioshock 1 here.

All I can say is that you shouldn't judge Bioshock 2 by 1. They're both great.

Urk, I just typed that fast. Too lazy to proofread.

Urgh, a vs thread.

In my opinion they were both fantastic. It was as shame that No.2 was No.2 so it lacked some originality which the first one has. That's how I see it in my opinion.

I thought they were both pretty good. It's sort of a toss up with me. On one hand Bioshock 2's combat was much more fun, it's very convinient having the ability to both fire your gun and use plasmids. On the other hand the game was also VERY short compared to the first game, which was also pretty short to begin with.

The first one had a good story, and the big reveal was pretty cool as well. Although when it comes to goals, I prefer the second game. At least in the second game it was clear what your ultimate goal was, the first was more like you were bieng led around by other people, and you were basically a puppet for other people's biddings. While that is in some ways an interesting way to play, I prefer trying to save my little sister, who is the one thing that's keeping me alive in 2.

Overall, I can't decide between the two. So I pick the third option.

Bioshock 1 had a better storyline, atmosphere, level design, and concept.

Bioshock 2 had better mechanics, and the fantastic Minerva's Den DLC.

So yeah, gonna have to vote #1.
