Just want peoples opinion on the uproar over the webcast (especially in The Lone Star State)Obama has planned for all school children in America. Please keep the trolling down to a minimum or put rants behind spoiler boxes.

Here's a link from the
Christian Science Monitor [http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/09/04/the-history-behind-opposition-to-obama-speech-to-students/]
The Dallas Morning News [http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/nation/stories/DN-obamawhy_04nat.ART.State.Edition2.4be01a1.html]
and finally

What's the big deal? Obama is just making a speech to try to motivate kids to learn or something, right? Besides, juding on how my friends and I approach these kinds of things, I assume most people in my school will simply zone out during the speech and just ignore it, rather than be effected by "evil socialist propaganda".

What are they afraid he'll say to them? Something about the war? Or the economy? Or health care? What the hell could he say to them that could be construed as partisan political rhetoric that children can understand?

i think this is what is being referred to

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/03/parents-object-obamas-national-address-students/

I was listening to the news today and heard about it.

Personally I don't care. I stopped caring about the government as a whole while Bush was in office and now am forcing all negativity and hate towards Schwarzenegger and figuring out how to get him out of office and someone in who WON'T cut from education first....or just move out of state....

Yeah, you shouldn't just assume everyone's going to know what you're talking about. Link please?

I've heard about this. Parents are upset that he'll use the opportunity to talk politics and brainwash the kids, ignoring the fact that Bush senior and their beloved Regan also did this.

"Republicans are evil", maybe? Sure, they don't know what a republican is, but why would that be a problem? Look at how many kids say they're Christian without understanding everything that means. (For instance, how many Christian kids actually understand why it was so necessary and good that Jesus died on the cross?)

Well I for one believe that Obama is a SOCIALIST! And just because I don't actually know what that means doesn't mean that I don't know it's a bad thing. There's a reason we used to call people "commies" to insult them, after all.

Also, I didn't vote for Obama. By which I mean that I was busy that day and didn't vote at all, but if I had, I wouldn't have voted for Obama. I wouldn't have voted for McCain either though, because Saturday Night Live taught me that his VP would take over when he died and then kill us all.

This is outrage, yes, but it's justified outrage. I disagree with things that I think he's doing as far as.... um.... policies. And such. And therefore since I'm pretty sure I don't agree with whatever he's doing, I don't feel that it's fair to make my child listen to him tell them what to do as far as staying in school goes.

Yet they don't care about everything else being advertised to their children? Obama is the least of their worries.

I think it's a clear overreaction, although I can understand the discomfort people have with political figures addressing children directly when they're a captive target.

Oh Texas...what can I say that hasn't already been said about one of the fattest states in our country?
Ahem... I'm from Texas, thank you very much...

My teachers have been talking about this. I'm frankly a little glad, as it might get me out of class. However, I am interested about what he has to say.

Ah, I see what this is about. So what, a few crazies think Obama is the antichrist. And, Obama has a name, right? So how about we call him that instead of "black man".

I understand why... If he hadn't have died, we wouldn't have had a bloody religion, and we would have to keep sacrificing lambs to appease God. Also, there would be no Christmas presents or Easter candy.
