The cutscenes are indeed undeniably long. In fact, I'd give a slap to anyone that tried to deny they were long. A few were an hour or so long. My gripe comes with the fact that people aren't intelligent enough to try to understand the games. Anyone that turns around to Kojima and says, "the cutscenes are too long," missed the entire point of the series entirely. MGS was a revolution in terms of the story. I dare anyone to find a PS1 game with a more intriguing story, before this. (And no, Silent Hill does NOT count.) MGS2 was an example of a post-modern masterpiece. You know what, I'll just insert my casual rant here:DustyDrB said:The cutscenes were long. That's an understatement, though. Unless you take your sweet time during the levels, there is more cutscene time than gameplay time. Mind you, when the gameplay starts, it is really fun and the bosses are a blast. But you can't fault people for not wanting to sit through hour long cutscenes.JaymesFogarty said:It's painful to see some of the people that screamed to the crowd, "they have sold us shit! We shall not give in. Teach them a lesson! Do not give in!" The screams are now about how crossbows are, "cool," and trust me, I don't type cool, as in the cool kind of cool. I'm typing cool right now as in the equivalent of shit. What's even more painful is that I can easily imagine most of the people buying this game, refusing to play the MGS series, (in my opinion a more innovative creative imaginative series) under the grounds that the cutscenes are long. Whatever happened to common sense?
They are each masterpieces, each divulging into different, interesting subjects such as memes, genes, scene, the illuminati plot, gene manipulation, the violence of warfare, the irrelevance of enemies, and the morality of warfare, to name I few I spotted. Each character has a past, hobbies, ideals; all of these things make me genuinely interested in them, and genuinely saddened if they die. The gameplay itself is fun, intuitive and free. Various strategies can be used, and using the various items is easy, and quick. The Codec provides the most interesting system I have seen so far in a game, allowing for a hints system as well as a means to know more about the plot, various characters, items, weapons, and current objective. There is no need for a compass, an objective screen, and other such things. Just the player, the pause menu, and the Codec. All of this is without mentioning the perfect timing of the various jokes and puns, and the pure devastating emotions blows the series inflicts upon you.
People that say that the series is boring, and that cutscenes are long, miss the point of the entire Saga completely. I dare anyone who has played all 4, (not 6, don't worry) games, to respond, and tell me they didn't cry, or come very close to at any point during the series.
