You are the luckiest unluckiest person in the world. You get to decide what disability you get, or your life ends there. You are given the choice of being deaf or blind for the rest of your life. Or you die on the spot. For simplicities sake, all three outcomes are completely painless

So what will it be? Can you bear the loss of your senses being ripped from you, or would you prefer to die?

Hm, hard to say. I've become extremely accustomed to being able to both hear and see. Since music is a huge part of my life, the inability to hear would be an extremely painful thing to have to live with. As for vision, well - without being able to see, my life and all the goals I've made would probably fall apart.

I chose the "dead" option. Without either of those senses, life would cease being enjoyable for me.

I'm going to go with Deaf. As many deaf people seem fine. Other than a few (i'm sure very annoying)limitations can pretty much take care of themselves like anyone else. And since I was not born that way I would be able to speak pretty well. I'd just have to learn to read lips or something.

edit: D'oh. I hit 'dead'

I doubt I could become an awesome samurai with my blind state or gain anything from being deaf. So I'll choose death. I've become accustomed to these senses, I don't think I could ever recover from losing either of them.

I blame that one movie I saw... even if it was on an somewhat positive note.

I'll go with deafness too. I would be able to speak well enough, could learn to read lips or learn sign language, and there's always cochlear implants. You never said we couldn't do anything about our disabilities.

I can't live without music, and I can't imagine a world without my sight, in complete darkness forever, so I guess that leaves death for me.
Now taste, THAT I could live without.

Being deaf would take a long time to adjust but its doable. I would rather die than go blind anytime

Just kill me then, in that case. I live on various types of fiction that all require my eyes and I couldn't imagine life without music. I'd go mental without.

Deaf. Our sight is the most important sense we have, as we observe most of the world through it. I'd rather not be blind.

Deaf seems like the least of evils, so I'd choose that. Blindness is a much bigger handicap imo and death, well...

Deaf since there are implants that can reverse some forms of deafness

death is ruled right out how are you supposed to live forever if you die prematurely
and blind is ruled out since the ocular implants designed to reverse it are not working correctly yet and i really dont want to be bumping into walls

Blind. I like living, and I could live without reading, or art, or videogames. But I would not want to live without music.

I can't believe "dead" is a popular answer.
Anyway , I'll stick to deaf , although I would miss the music.

Deaf. I can still enjoy all the tings life has to offer, except music and such. But at least I won't have to listen to stupid people anymore.

Deaf. I need my books and videogames, but music has never been a major part of my life. And it would give me a great excuse to ignore people I don't like.

With all the votes for deadness I imagine this must be a pretty depressing thread for blind people, good thing they can't see the poll.

I also voted dead as I couldn't live without sight and hearing.

Strangely enough ive often wondered what it would be like to be blind, interesting experience. I realize that's probably a horrible thing to say when Blind people don't have a choice in the matter, but i still wonder.

Ive never wondered about being deaf, i think id feel too lost, trapped, and the fact that i couldn't listen to music would be unbearable.

Death is an interesting mystery but since im going to find out eventually anyway, i think id rather explore the world from a different (although more limited) angle.

Blind, definitley.

Deaf. Hearing is useful to have for all the things I enjoy doing, but vision is mandatory.

And if I find it sucks too hard later on, I can always suck down 9mm of hot lead.
