so i just bought and watched forest gump on blu-ray and in the scenes where he meets the presidents the high definition made the edited faces of the presidents look really cheezy and fake so my question is have any of my fellow escapist bought one of their old favorite movies in blu-ray and thought that it would be better left in standard definition

I don't buy old movies like that in Blu ray because first off, the quality just looks....off for some reason.

If it wasn't made post blu ray then it's not worth it.

Plus, I'll never pay an extra 10 bucks for better quality on a movie with no real special effects in it. That's the only reason I have any bluray is for when a movie mostly relies on its presentation.

Movies that were filmed/processed/whatever with blu-ray in mind look amazing. Dunno about old movies remastered to blu-ray.

Remastered classics (Like 8 and a half and Psycho) look AMAZING on blu-ray. It's only when the print sucks that its deficiencies are highlighted.

The problem with a lot of old movies is that for some reason people seem to hate film grain. All they want is utterly flat, shiny high def with no regard to the film itself.
well that was the problem with forrest gump the scene where he meets the prsident was supposed to be grainy to match the old fil but now just looks like polished glass and the editing done to put the presidents into the scene looks horrible now
