Title is a little misleading, so quick explanation

I often take part in a lot of real life debate about philosophy, politics etc. Not too long ago in a discussion, I found that most of my points are automatically dismissed because I've had a higher level of education than most (post-graduate). The point was that I couldn't provide a valid opinion because I was indoctrinated by too many "books". The common opinion in that discussion was that I was somehow brainwashed into a particular agenda by some unknown force, which acted through the education system, further education in particular. I was very interested in this, and have since found out that it's a generally common belief amongst many vocally active debaters, who do not have a high level of organised education. They believe that through life an independent research (which is somehow different to my independent research) that they reach more valid opinions and facts.

So I put it to you, Escapist. What do you, personally, value more? Intelligence gained from education or intelligence gained from life experiences?

(ps I looked to find a similar topic on the search bar, and couldn't find any, so sorry if this has been posted before)
