My friends and I were playing Borderlands 2 today and we started discussing the many different components that make up all of the different guns. While we thought the new manufacturer bonuses were a good addition, ultimately we felt there could be more personal customization.
First: all base gun rigs would have a set amount of customization points that would depend on it's rarity and level requirement. Each weapon type would have different possible attachments, such as optics and magazines.
Second: gun attachments (optics, magazines, stocks, etc.) would use a certain number of customization points, also varying with rarity and level requirement.
Third: elements could be added by infusing a certain amount eridium (based upon rarity and level) and a weapon that already has the desired element.
Fourth: guns could be painted with layers of different preset patterns and colors to increase personal taste.
We weren't exactly sure how balanced this system could be, so I was wondering what you fellow Escapists thought about implementing it into Borderlands or any other game?
