Making a fun game is the single most easiest thing any game developer needs to do. This is due to the fact everyone has a different interpretation of fun. Some people think bungie jumping is fun, despite the fact that it should be renamed to virtual suicide. Some people think cricket is fun, even though it is a game that includes rules for 'day-long' test matches. Some people think math is fun, but this might be an urban legend. Even Fire Warrior, a mediocre FPS by everyone's standards, can be at time's fun, especially when you get your hands on the melta cannon.

I am also one of those strange alien beings who find moomorpugers fun. All of the grinding gives me time to think, an activity I enjoy immensly. Of course, that doesn't mean I want a game where I grind for infinity, and it had better have some damn good combat if it knows what's good for it.

Also, Mr. Zombie, no offense, but the game you just described ranks up on the same level of attainability as moving the universe to a warmer dimension.

I know, Copter, I know.

But, there's something odd about me. I like the thought of Overlord in Neverwinter Nights with a class system, I like the thought of being able to do what I want in a game.

You guys ever play Arx Fatalis? It is the only RPG I have ever played that felt... fun. The spells work, the weapons, armour and item combining system work.

You could take heads off with fireballs, summon demons and then have to control them. Dismemberment, a strange spell casting system... and when you killed shopkeepers, you could loot their shops (provided you found the key to their crates, or had a lockpick).

I felt happy for the first time in ages... but that was 5 years ago for me.

Now, all I want a truly free game. Where I can be what I want (class system or not). Necromancer, Vampire, Zombie, BOOZE ZOMBIE, Soul Eater, Space Time Manipulator.

I remember having a day dream about a game like this: It has the main character falling through the universe, selecting how he will exist and when he will exist, through a RPG game interface.

Imagine falling from Pluto, downwards towards Earth, pausing as a voice confirms various selections you make. Face, clothes, starting skills, personality. When you make the final selection, you enter the world via stratigic placement by the galaxy. E.g, if you choose to be a gun slinging, criminal bastard, you'll wake up in an alley with some muggers just over the way.

Damn, have I been wittering on? Oh well, hope it didn't sound too bad.

That kind a way, yea. But it's generally spoken why games are boring. Maybe it's because of the clones stanking up the market(that should be quoted, but why should i? i'm lazy.), which makes it easier to get bored...

It really is a shame that almost no one innovates, or waste the potential of a innovative game, Which is what seemed to have happened with kane&lynch. Please don't digress guys, And oh yea, haven't played kane&lynch, won't do that in the near future.

the thing is, games seem to be a lot easier than in those old days. It's almost insulting how easy games have become. Maybe that is why ninja theory got ninja gaiden? I heard that game is hard.

Maybe it's because we know what we are dealing with in the genres and have grown alot of experience, so other games that are exactly like the other one, including difficulty will seem easier, by a ton. Which is pretty sad.

Maybe that's why nintendo still exists. Even though gaming is becoming easier, they find ways to make games fun, without the difficulty in the old days. Maybe it's because lord looked and said it's good, but all sillyness aside, nintendo should live on the way it is now.

Maybe it's because of those deadlines that have to be made. Maybe they should look in their sacks of money and reconsider that, like someone else said in this thread, deadlines kill good or innovative games. And that is another reason why gamers should hate hypes.

How come Dynasty Warriors has so many sequles including Gundam and Samuri ones too. Where'd they get their money from?! The games are so boring. Repertition up the arse, but after games like Kingdom Of Heroes came out, the games fighting system and fights just got boring as a whole. Hit the enemy till they die. They made up all these tactics things but it still sucks and is the same old thing. The fun went out the window halfway through number 1.

I too am saddened at how recent 'RPGs' offer more style than substance, the crucial element of such games (substance, not style). I mean, Oblivion was a very pretty game with a nice big world, but after playing through it once I uninstalled it and never touched it again. One can only hack at enemies repetitively with his sword or fire off generic projectile spells so many times before it gets completely ancient. When that forms pretty much 80% of the game's content, you know you've hit rock bottom.

MOST games missing the point, no I wouldn't say that. Many games, yes, certainly. I'd say about 65/35, with the majority of games being fun. Of course, I avoid a lot of games that seem crap (ie games licensed off movies and animes). I might be missing out on some goodies, but on the whole I'm rather satisfied with missing some but having a majority of positive experiences.
