Just finished looking at reviews of Brink and they're really not that great for a game that looked promising

...The reviews for most other places have been in the 7-8 range, which typically registers as an 'above average' or a 'love it or hate it' kind of game. And again, IGN's reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt, much like Gamespot's reviews too. But MORE importantly, I'm not too concerned about the reviews, as I'll formulate my own opinion once I play it.

I'm looking forward to it, objective based gameplay is fun for me and I like any class based games that aren't TF2.

The two reviews on Metacritic are both 80s so not all the reviews are bad, I will be the judge of that for myself tomorrow though.

I wasn't planning on picking it up anyway right away, probably will bargain bin it later. I would wait for the review here or by Blistered Thumbs before I formulate an opinion.

I would question how they could give a proper review of a multiplayer game at all when it hasn't even gone live yet so that the online community could access it. Sure, they can play it with each other, but that is different from playing it online like it's meant to be played.

I'm not saying that it's going to be good or bad, to be honest I only ordered it because the friends I play online with have been going on about it for months and if I want to play with them I kind of had to get it. That said, I think it would be wisest to withhold judgement for until there is a legitimate online community which can play it like it's supposed to be played.

I don't know. I've learned from experience that reviews can't be trusted.

Fallout 3: Critical Acclaim. I thought it was an atmosphere-less pile of crap.

Medal of Honor: Mixed reviews on this one. I thought that the multiplayer was mediocre. I. Fucking. Loved. The single-player. It's the only game I've ever called too short.
Now what I mean by that is that, say a game like Kane & Lynch 2, which was short, but (Based on the demo I played) was an unpolished, nauseating experience. I wanted less after the demo, so I don't call it too short, I call it too long.

Well... Speaking of which, K&L2 got average reviews and... well I thought it was an awful game just from the demo alone.

Metroid: Other M got above average reviews and I can honestly say that it was by far the worst game I've ever played. I cannot find a single good thing to say about it.

CoD MW2 and BlOps got above average reviews and I hate the both of them. Which is strange because if you look at my summaries on paper "They are mirror opposites of each other" you'd think I love one of them. But I don't. I mean that everything MW2 got wrong, BlOps get's.. occasionally right and everything MW2 got right BlOps gets wrong.

I tried the Mass Effect 2 demo for PS3 and I honestly was not impressed. Combat and gameplay overall seemed unpolished. The other stuff was pretty good. That might have been enough to get me interested. But then I noticed that there is aim assist. That you can't turn off.
So in other words: fuck you BioWare.

I think you get the point.
If there's a demo for Brink I'll check that out once the PSN is back online and base whether I get it or not off of that. If there is no demo than... well I won't be getting it.

The problem is the game is very ambitious but was made by a no name company. Nothing against smaller developers, after all a husband and wife team made a game that I've put WAY too much time into (M&B), but I just don't think a small company has the resources or manpower to pull off a game like this.

I've had an eye on Brink for over a year now, and I always said that it would come down to execution. The game's got lots of potential but if the systems are done well enough, it's going to flop.

So far Metacritic has 2 good reviews for the 360 version and one bad review for the PS3 version. Nothing yet on the PC. I'm confused as to how this metacritic thing is supposed to work..

I feel the reviewers (note, Im not talking about IGN, I think the site and everyone who works there is utter trash and should be culled... nothing big) are still playing this game in the COD mindset. One of the reviews I watched had the guy complain about the grenades being to weak and not killing. It was one the same site that also had a video from the devs saying that there will be no one hit kills, and grenades are for knock downs mostly.

Im still of the opinion that COD corrupts reviewers and is going to kill the FPS genre sooner or later. Good for other genres, but I still love my FPSs...

Maybe IGN just got out-SMART-ed.........get it? cause there's the.....SMART system?

I'm well aware of the fact that I suck at puns thank you very much.

Anyway, I'm surprised to hear so many people say "I'll just wait a couple days and check Metacritic". Guys, have we learned nothing from the Portal 2 fiasco?

Honestly tho, judging if you will like the game by looking at the reviews is really not a good idea. You should look at gameplay videos and such imo, or see it a friend's place. No one can judge it better than you, certainly not IGN.

And Portal 2 was awesome, the Metacritic user reviews were negative because of hats??? Yeah okay that's legitimate.

Every other review I've seen so far (Destructoid, Gametrailers, Gamesradar, etc.) has given it a 7.5 or better, so...

Ignorance, perhaps? We'll see as more scores roll in.

All of the bad reviews are for the Xbox version, which is pretty much the inferior one anyway.

I've pre-ordered it, so I'm going to have fun, even if it kills you.

On topic: I mostly skimmed through it, but were it any other game, mainly blockbuster stuff that seems overly generic, in a pretty fashion I'd let poor scores be it's death, with this kind of game, I might have considered buying it just so other companies would try parkour, and perhaps extensive customization.

And 2 metacritic reviews are positive http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/brink and so is Eurogamer's review of it, so I guess it's all subjective isn't it -_-

I really have no stake in the matter, I wasn't planning on getting it. I just saw the thread and posted the Joystiq link.

Well, at least you can play online with that version.
Bahaha! Well played. I was, however, implying that the PC version is the one to get.

It's amusing that if IGN give a game a high score they're classed as "payed off", whilst if they go against the norm and give a lower score they're classed as not handing out a high score because they weren't payed off; and if they give a game, a now middling score, of 7 or 8 they're being "safe".

They can't win...

I do get the impression from a number of posts on this thread, however, that you don't really want a fair score. You want a high score to justify your hype for the game, that's why you're desperately clinging onto the reviews over 7.5 whilst insulting those outlets [at least in the case of IGN] that gave the game a score below that.

Well when you lose the trust of gamers for a few years, you can't expect them to believe you all of a sudden (in my humble opinion)
