From reviews and comments Ive read I get the impression that bullet time is an overused and boring feature. As Ive only been into shooters for about three years, the only examples of anything approaching classic bullet time I have come across are VATS in fallout 3, the adrenaline pill in GTA and the Slow motion cheat in COD 4, which I think are all awsome and make for fun and memorable gaming. And it seems to me that some games would be better for it. Crysis is a perfect example. So am I the only one who wants to see a comeback for bullet time, or is it really so cliched that no-one wants to see it again.

I don't think it is. In the Max Payne and FEAR games it was pretty much an essential part of the gameplay; what really matters is whether the games that feature it are good. I don't play a game and think 'Oh it has bullet time, that's so overused.' I either think:

'Well this game is good, and it has bullet time.' (The two may possibly be connected).

or,

'Well this game sucks, and it has bullet time.' (The two are generally unconnected).

Bullet time is good on occasion and with the right context, mainly to have a sort of adrenaline-fueled slow-mo bit to fire more accurately, or to show off something totally awesome.

Bullet time died a long time ago. It has been revived in fallout 3 among other things. It looks like devs realized if their are 3 games coming out around eachother that all hale bullet time, its a bad idea.

It's alright, but too many games have been trying to pull it off and not doing very good.

No one does it anymore because it WAS overused. It was tried, and everyone found out they didn't like it. I hated it, but I also thought it just made games boring. Why give the ability to make impossible shots super easy. It was overused and abused well beyond the point of exhaustion.

It's just the video game idea cycle of life.

I think it was awesome, but then everything had it, so it wasn't as awesome. Like CDs are no longer anything special.

Games try to rely on bullet time as there feature they shouldn't i mean look at max payn ok the fire fights would be a bit dull without it but it would still hold up as a good game with good plot delivery even if there was no bullet time, i mean is half life 2 only good because of the gravity gun? Hell no is Deus Ex just a shit sandbox game with an awesome augmentation system? No. What developers try to do is make a game good using bullet time when they should make a already good game great with it.

I don't like having an actual bullet-time power or gauge, but I like when certain actions in gameplay slow things down so that the player can enjoy what's happening on the screen. Like Prototype or Batman:AA. It should be used as emphasis of something interesting.

Having a separate slow-motion mode trivializes the difficulty, and makes the action too slow and boring.
