I never beat Assassins Creed, I've played the beginning and that's it. But i got Assassins Creed 2 for Christmas and I really like it (it's way more fun that the first one).

But I feel bad for not beating Assassins Creed, do you guys ever feel bad for buying the sequel and not beating the original?

I've done it before. It's not really that big of a deal unless the game continues exactly from where the previous one leaves off, and even then it usually won't bother me.

Feel bad? No, but I wouldn't do it. If I didn't finish the original it's cause I didn't like it.

It really depends on the game. With Silent Hill and Resident Evil I didn't feel bad because playing the originals wasn't really essential and I didn't have a Plastation anyway. With KOTOR however, I played the second before the first, and boy did I fucking love it. But once I bought and got the first one boy did I feel midly dissapointed. Not because it was bad, but after playing KOTOR 2 the lacking features of KOTOR 1 were too glaring at that point because I played the sequel first.

yeah sometimes, if its story driven and there are certain things that are noticeable or hints from the first one, then i feel bad, but if its most shooters and shallow story hack and slashers then no dont give a fuck, gettin the better game obviously

never played Diablo 1 but beat D2 to a pulp

I'd played the first, briefly, at a friends house. I was about to buy it when I saw the second one, looked at the back of both boxes and then bought the second. I decided there wasn't much point in following the plot when it really just amounts to: kid with silly hair-do and disney characters wail on some glowy eyed black things in various shapes and sizes until evil disney character pops up and they wail on him to, ad nauseum. Really I was looking for a game that was more actiony than rpg-y.

Moving on: one of my favourite games is Shadow Hearts 2 which does carry on from the first game. I've never played Shadow Hearts 1 though, nor have I ever felt the need to.

However I suspect this is probably because SH2 explains the backstory to everything that happens in it's own story thus covering anything relevent from the first game.

Also recently got my hands on Digital Devil Blah 2. I have a basic understanding of what transpired in the first game (everyone wanted to get to the 'nice place' because they were living in a shit hole and they had to fight to get there. The good guys won and got transported there) and haven't really yearned for the chance to experience anything more.

All other 'sequels' that come to mind have no relation to any of the games that came before them.

Nah...don't bother. Most games aren't so crippling as to leave you so uninformed, you have no clue as to what is happening. Like Fallout 3, I have never even played the first two...I saw them being played, but not much more than that...
