You never know they might do something original with the game. Perhaps they will set a campaign in the foothills of Republican China, perhaps as the guerrilla communist forces fighting against the Japanese invaders. Perhaps they will let you fight as the Greek army against the bungled Italian invasion. Perchance, if delicately handled, you may even be able to play as one of the Axis states in a campaign (not in the obvious ?we?re supervillains? way, but in the ?I?m a conscript who doesn?t want to be here either? way?). Instead of defending a village bridge in the Low Countries during an evacuation, maybe the fall of Singapore could be an option. Rather than spending the winter in the snowy fields of France, the icy plateaus of Manchuria would provide for an interesting killing ground.
If any idea like this is done no doubt it will be as the generic U.S. commando who finds himself inserted with the random nation, or as the Axis soldier who defects and end fighting side by side with the US army. Unfortunately I find it hard to believe that any form of innovation in setting will discount the imbedded notion of USA=majority of military action.
If we are very lucky though and prey very hard at our bedsides at night, we might get to land on Omaha beach again, but this time in HD!
