Anthrax. Old Anthrax. I tried listening to their newest album with Belladonna back, but modern production and filters just don't work with thrash metal... it sounds like crap. Give me "I Am the Law" any day.

More currently, my favorite thrash bands overall have been Death Angel and Exodus for a loooong time.

I'm not a huge lover of the Big Four as a whole, although I do like Metallica and Megadeth a fair bit, so I suppose it is a draw between the two. I've never really listened to much Anthrax, and I find myself physically incapable of enjoying Slayer, for some reason.

Sepultura (specifically up to and including Arise I mean).

I know that's not an option, but really I think they did more to earn a place among the big 4 than Anthrax and had a much bigger impact on the development of the Death and Black Metal (even in spite of Morbid Visions being rather patchy and incompetent, but hey, not everything has to be great to leave an impact) genres and I think Schizophrenia, Beneath the Remains and Arise really tend to get overlooked when it comes to great Thrash albums. Anyway, out of the big four I'm not particularly fussed about Anthrax or Slayer and I haven't really listened to enough of Megadeth (yeah, I know, that's kinda shameful >.>) to make much of a judgement so I'll go with Metallica, who for as much shit as they get have still made 6 good albums out of 9 in my mind, though I suppose nothing they've made post Master of Puppets has really come close to emulating it. =/

Megadeth by a large margin for me. I love Slayer and early Metallica as well but Megadeth is close to the top of my favorite metal bands of all time. Dave is an excellent musician mixing influences and styles brilliantly.

Anthrax has always been "meh" to me though and I enjoy a number of other thrash acts more than them e.g Testament, Dark Angel, Exodus and of course the amazing Pantera. Scott Ian is a pretty cool guy though I guess.

Testament would be my second favorite Thrash band if anyone cares, always wish they would get more credit outside of the underground metal community like Megadeth/Metallica/Slayer did. Such an awesome band.

I'm leaning more towards Metallica, seeing as they were kinda my first thrash band. Tbh thrash isn't even my favorite genre. Although one of my favorite bands is Gojira, so I neglect all oher answers and chose them! They do have thrash elements in their music.

Now if anyone needs me I'm gonna be chilling out to Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky ;)

I'm honestly not that much of a fan of thrash, I prefer either Melodic death metal (The Black Dahlia Murder) or Metalcore (Caliban), but I prefer Metallica to the ones listed, with Slayer in second place.

Without Undermining and Pedant-icing Anyone's musical Taste
I always though Thrash Metal was inelegant brutish and unsophisticated
Though MetallicA kinda prove me wrong by being full of Variety and Subtlety

I do Love Rammstein and early Black Sabbath though as far as Metal Goes

Metal heads are too busy killing everything to think about such things.

I love you for that.

On topic, I have to say Metallica. In fact, I don't even like any of the other Big 3 that much. One of the best things about Metallica is that they tried something new (even if some of it was crap, I'm looking at St. Anger).

Definitely Metallica. They have been my favorite band since 1983-84... cant remember the exact date, but it was right after Master of Puppets came out. Rest in Peace, Cliff Burton. Also, they need to get Jason Newsted back!!!

Honestly, all four of them are pretty boring. I acknowledge that they've had a huge influence during their time, but this day and age there's far superior bands releasing albums. :p

Revocation, for example.

No offense, but to be honest I cannot stand what is defined as "metal" today. It irritates me to no end to hear them constantly scream into the mike and call it singing. I will take my old school metal any day over that stuff. Again, thats just a personal choice, I'm not trying to bash on what you like.

Metallica all the way. Apart from Load, Reload and St Anger though.
Can't get into Anthrax (apart from their more commercial album with Safe Home on, fans don't crucify me), and Slayer are a bit one dimensional. I do like their Reign in Blood and South of Heaven records though.

Whoops, forgot Megadeth. Haven't much of their stuff, but I don't like Mustaine's voice much.

The main reason they're called the big four to my knowledge is because Sonisphere festival marketed them as such last year.

Going to say Megadeth because I like a few of their songs (although their live gigs consist of walking on stage, playing a few songs and walking off in search of the cheque.)

I'd like to add that 'tallica bore me something rotten, it's pretty grim when a band has to announce for live shows "It's the good album! Honest!".

Anthrax is my favorite of the four by a long shot.

I quite like Megadeth, haven't listened much to Slayer and just don't like Metallica.
