I call it a paradox and since the poll has no such option, I went for the next closest thing to paradox - penguins.

Paradoxically, 0%. Because I am 100% confident about my answer, yet 100% is not an option. Therefore the chance of my answer being the right one is 0%.

It's 40% .

It does seem like a trick question but it isn't . The question is , what are the chances one of the the answers below are correct . The probability in the answers are not for THAT question but another question we don't know . Therefore there is a 2/5 chance that one of them are correct , thus making the answer 40%

Edit : now if you were to answer A, B,C,D or E , you would be wrong . But if you say the answer is 40% you are right . It just happens that 40% corresponds to the letter B .

Ha, i am loving the results of the poll so far. The answer is of course 0%. Interestingly, if you put 0% as an option the puzzle becomes a paradox even if you do cheat by choosing non-presented answers. If the answer is 0% it isn't because it's 20%. If its 20% it isn't, because that isn't an option, so the answer is 0%.

The correct answer is therefore penguins (I am in no way biased).
That's exactly a problem the question is in itself not solvable. In addition I too am partial to our tuxedo wearing brethren.

Edit: Curses changed the question and now I need to reevaluate.

I've seen other versions of this paradox which is fortunate because I'm hung over and not in the mood for math. Thus, the answer is: Penguins.

To answer the Title's question, Yes. I can answer that question, I just did.

And, since 'Yes' isn't part of the options in the Poll, I can't answer the Poll's question. So, I won't.

Uhhh... This is a trick question, isn't it? I chose alpacas because the other answers give me a headache... Penguins included.

This question is impossible to answer. The answer isn't even 0% because that in itself is an incorrect answer. Let's look at the options:

Realistically, you'd have a 1 in 5 chance of answering a five-choice question correctly. So the answer would be 20%. But the problem is that there are two answers of 20%. That makes the answer 2 out of five answers. That means, based on random chance, you'd have a 40% chance of just guessing it. But, since that'd mean there'd only be a 1 out of 5 answer, it brings it back to 20%. That creates an infinite loop. This should mean the answer would be 0%. But, since that in itself is an option, it means that there would actually be a 20% chance of getting it right. Which means the question is insolveable.

Now, if the answer can only be a single letter and one of the five must be considered correct, that changes things slightly. The answer would have to be a single letter. That means that you have a 20% chance to get it right. This causes the chance of getting the right option to become 50% if you know what's going on. That makes every option wrong by extension. But in the end, you'll still have a 20% chance of getting it right. It just means that the answer you choose can't be absolutely right because the question itself is wrong.

Hiya escapists.

I stumbled across an old question for the second time today.
After seeing all the strange replies people manage to come up with for the question, I feel I need to see if the escapist community does better.

If you are to choose one of the options below at random, what is the probability that the option you choose is the correct answer?

A: 20%
B: 40%
C: 60%
D: 20%
E: 0%

Edit: The question has been edited to contain an additional option.
Given 5 answers, chosen randomly, the likelihood of selecting any particular answer is 20%.

Now just investigate each choice and see if it is possible to be correct.

a) You have a 20% chance, which means only a single answer is correct. Ie: one answer of 20%. That is untrue, there are two answers of 20%. For this to be true, you'd need a single 20% answer.

b) You have a 40% chance, which means that there are two correct answers. That is also untrue, because there is only a singular 40%. For this to be true, you'd need two 40% answers.

c) You have a 60% chance, which means that there are three correct answers. This is untrue. For it to be true, you'd need three 60% answers.

d) Same logic as (a)

e) You have a 0% chance, which means there are no correct answers. (e) is self defeating - by being 'correct' it invalidates itself.

There's no answer in (a)-(e) that gives the correct result.

Santa Claus is your parents.

On a less serious note, it's a paradox, as it's already been stated - no right answer since this cannot exist in reality. Ah well, fun anyway. Go Alpacas!

100% because im always right!
also i love alpacas!
now if you take it seriously the answer is a bit complicated because there is two "20%"s but assuming that they are not the same answer the answer will be 20% if they are the same it makes it complecated because if you choose 20% you have 40% to be right but then you didnt choose it... if you choose 40% you have only 20% chance to be right because it apears only once...
so yea mind fucked im just going that A means 20% chance that you are correct and D means 20% less sugar... so A is right :p
