Ah, the wonders of salt water; The salt makes you more buoyant. If you ever get a chance to swim in the (can't remember if it's the dead sea or the red sea), try it. I hear that it's so salty that it's impossible for a human being to sink in it.
I believe its also too salty to swim. Anybody taking a few dips in that sea is gonna get dehydrated quickly. Not to mention if you swallow any of that water and you'll be too busy gagging.
Oh and its the dead sea.
Believe it or not, it is possible, and it's a pretty common part of a vacation to the area: Link [http://www.world66.com/asia/middleeast/jordan/deadsea].

Years ago, there was an interim pastor at my church who had done it himself. Oh, and thank you for pointing out that it is, indeed the Dead Sea. I thought that was it, but wasn't sure, and didn't have time to check.
lol, I did not know that. By the way, your url states that its impossible to swim in it, you can only float on it ;)
Its 'guarded' by security guards and landmines ... Now I wanna hire a pilot with an aircraft, fly over the Dead Sea, jump into the Dead sea from 10000 feet and read the Sunday newspaper while floating on it.

I learned how to swim from my mom and also just being in the water. Actually, the other way I learned how to swim was watching the Ocean Girl tv show when it came on here in America. She swam like a dolphin, so I tried it, and it worked! I can actually swim pretty good, I know I could save my life but I don't know how far I could go. I never did get quite get the hang of floating on my back, I always sunk like a rock. It was never relaxing for me, lol.

However, I'm terrified of the ocean or just water I can't see in for some reason. I guess I feel something is gonna come and get me. Even when I'm in a boat, I'm kind of terrified of the water I'm over. I really can't explain it, I've just always been afraid of the ocean.

I learnt when I was younger, but extreme self consciousness and the fact that people pee in the pool really turn me off of it <_< A private, clean pool is fine though :p

I can swim well enough to stay alive for a minute or 2, but I wouldn't trust myself to dive into a river to save someone, as I would probably die myself

I can swim well enough to not die, that's pretty much it.
At least that's more than what Altair and John Marston can claim.

If so, how good are you at swimming, and at what age did you learn this wicked skill?

I was afraid of water form the age of 2 when dad forgot me in the sea and I almost drowned(it was keen deep for him, but I almost drown, man!), but at the age of 14 I decided that I should let go of the past and learn how to swim(my dad always kept offering to teach me, but I always refused). So I took courses with 5 year old(rather embarrassing), at the local pool, and after 1 month of intense training I learned how to swim.

Now I'm a fairly mediocre swimmer, but should my life depend on it, I think I can manage.

So, how about you guys(and girls)?
I almost drowned when I was a toddler too!!

I'm afraid the similarities end there.
I didn't give up on swimming and am now training with one of the best squads in Australia.

Who would've guessed?

Age 3-4, I've spent most of my teen years in the local swimming squad, though I haven't been to a pool for a looong long time now.

I've still got the technique down to a tee, it's just the fitness I lack.

I used to swim in small competitions but I haven't been in a pool for I think 8 years.
I do however go scuba diving so I kinda swim but not properly.

Had too learn quickly or else the turtle would've eated me! Or so I thought when I was 5. Fear is a great motivator.
Also, I'm working on being able to hold my breath longer. Up to 3 minutes now. It's actually easier for me under water, even with the added pressure.
