I believe the answer is not as easy as you might think at first.
So what do you play games for?
Is it the challenge you look for? Do you want to fight hard, bite out your teeth and neglect your social life and nutrition?
Or is it the entertainment? Do you want to enjoy the feeling, the gameplay etc?
Sure, you can have both in a game but I guess deep inside every gamer plays for either one or the other reason.

Challenge is more important for me, but as long as it's intentional challenge and not bad gameplay challenge.

I don't play games because they're challenging, I play games because they're fun, but if a game isn't challenging it isn't fun so if I pick fun I win.

I don't have fun unless I'm challenged.

Unless I can die over and over and listen to sound R2-D2 makes when he dies in Lego Star Wars.

Agreed. I personally derive enjoyment through a well-designed challenge, like in Bioshock or HL2.

Both are important, but Fun is more important to me. I can make my own challenges.

Example: After level 25 in Oblivion I usually have enough magical weapons, armor, and spells to kill anything in the game but I keep playing it because it's still fun. To complete the questions and collect stuff.

Although I do admit that sometimes a challenge gets me going.

A lot of the time, any given game will start to go downhill in the "fun" area for me as the game gets less and less challenging, so the two are inextricably tied together for me.

P.S. There are people on this site who don't play games!? (See Poll Results above.)

Saints Row 2 is fun and I've played it for over 48 hours.

Facebreakers was challenging and I played it for an hour.

You can see how I voted

I like a nice balance between fun and challenge, but I generally prefer fun. That's why I often lower the difficulty when I play Devil May Cry games..

Both. Games have both in them to various degrees. The good games create fun with a good balance of challenge.
A game without challenge cannot be fun.
A game without fun cannot be fun.

Thus, I request that you add the option "Both" in your poll since it is the only correct answer. I will not vote until then.
Yeah but the whole point of the poll was that I think if it comes down to either one or the other, every gamer has only one "right" answer for himself.

I like challenge, cause theres isnt really any fun in a game that takes no skill to complete.
Then again, the more challenging a game is, the more fun I find it.

Both, although I chose fun because that's what a game is meant to be. However, if there's no challenge then it's just dull. Even early games like Pong and Tetris posed a challenge, and still do. I can get plenty of headshots in Gears of War and Halo 3 so easily but still struggle to reach Level/Speed 12 on Tetris...

I always loved that noise.

And I pick fun. A game is not worth playing if it does not offer fun.

That, god damn it. I didn't feel any "fun" playing Prince of Persia. Okay, so the fights were nice looking, so are the acrobatics, but everything's piss easy.

Same as why playing TF2 against a team of retarded fishfrogs which we pwn in 5 minutes is no fun. Because I didn't use even 1% of my brain's power.

How about both, challenge and fun in the same package. Seems impossible, but it's not.
