Poll: Choose your misfortune

I warn you now, this thread is morbid. Turn back now if you wish to be spared from reading about all the hypothetical unpleasantness.

Edit: I realize the poll is the opposite of the thread title. I'm asking you to choose which one you'd prefer in the comments, and the poll was to determine which were deemed the worst overall.

Anyway, the poll pretty much explains the thread. Which of the listed events would you least like to befall you. Down in the comments, feel free to say which one you would most like to happen if you were forced to choose one of them. I'll expound on them here to try and preemptively clear up some questions.

For torture you would be exposed to various types of torture for one week. These types of torture include water boarding, branding, flaying, and electrocution. The long term physical damage would be minor, you would be guaranteed not to die, and you would miraculously be spared any major scarring. It will take some time to physically recover.

Murder of the person/animal you care about the most is rather self explanatory, but you would be forced to watch. They wouldn't be tortured, but they would know they were about to die and that you chose to have them die over suffering for yourself. You may only choose the animal if there is no person who you care about.

For rape you would be raped for a week by someone physically repulsive to you. It would be physically very painful. Again, no long term physical damage from this. Again, it will take some time to physically recover.

For paralysis you would be made quadriplegic. There MAY be hope to regain use of your limbs, but it definitely won't be for many years, and it's only a possibility.

For death you die. It would not be painful. In fact, you would be given a drug to make you feel total bliss before it happened, and it would be over instantly.

For solitary confinement you are confined to a very small, dark cell for a period of one year. There is no outside human interaction, and your notably bland food is delivered via a mechanically automated system.

For disfigurement you are forced to live with severe facial disfigurement with no hopes of facial reconstruction for at least 10 years.

So, pick your poison.

I'd probably go for murder of the animal I care most about as I really don't care that much about animals. Hell, I'd do it myself to avoid any of the alternatives. If I had to choose something else then I'd probably go for physical torture.

as its what id least like to happen to me...quadraplegic (tbh as i told the missus way back when...if i ever get to a stage where i need help to wipe my ass..push me of a cliff..or at least leave me within tongue crawling range of said cliff)

and as to what id pick of the list if i had to deal with it.. torture...itll be a shitty week but its only a week.

the death option sounds pretty pleasant btw..if it werent for the being dead part...but hell ..sounds like a pretty good way to go all things considered.

The animal was only put there as an alternative for people who don't care about any person in particular. If there is a person you care about more than any animal then they are the ones who must die.

Yeah I know. I wanted to know what people thought was the worst, but I also what to know what people would prefer would happen to them out of the choices listed. Ultimately I was most curious what people thought was the worst, but I also encourage people to say what they'd prefer in the comments as I suggested in the OP. If I could have put in two polls I would have.

It could be. Torture for a straight week is enough to mentally break hardened individuals beyond repair. I know I personally think I could tolerate a couple of the other things better. It's a very personal question though, so if you think you'd do better with torture then you very well may.

I chose rape because I imagine it's pretty much a form of torture but preferable to being flayed or branded. It'd be terrible but preferable to any of the options that either leave you permanently disabled or dead.

Solitary confinement for one year? Yeah, that's going to leave you insane. Even those confined in prisons get human interaction every day, even if it is as little as being allowed 30 min in the yard to move.

I've never been raped, but I have since long distanced myself from the thought of 'sexuality = shame' and similar. I am very sexually open. So I might be able to handle it better. But then again, maybe not.

I think a person "might" be able to get out of solitary with their sanity. The effects of it vary from individual to individual. Knowing how long it will be also helps in that regard.

As to rape, I honestly think it's generally a less traumatic experience than some of the torture I mentioned. I say that based on having known a couple of military guys who went through some of it.

I get rather queasy when some talks about a hypothetical happening to me and start jumping to conclusions. Let's see how:

Physical torture- I end up almost going insane after a week because I can't take it. I might even change too much for anyone's liking.
Murder of the person I care about- That would scar me for life. I'd have no way to bounce back from an endless depression, as one of the people that I cared about, who could help me bounce back, doesn't exist...
Rape- Same as murder, but less of an effect. In fact, I'd probably come back to normal insanely fast, but the above would leave me in lifetime depression.
Paralysis- I'd still be alive, but not be able to do anything. But if I'm lucky, I can do the Stephen Hawking thing.
Death- I wouldn't mind death, but I'd like to truly affect the world in some way, no matter how big or small, before I die. Shut up, cynics, I need that at least.
Solitary confinement- Might be an option that I'd take for the thread question. I'll just have the privacy of my own thoughts, with no idiots to bother me.
Disfigurement- It would be fixable after 10 years? I'm okay with that, but it would make finding my friends a bit too difficult.

As you can see, I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to things like this. Hence why I refused to answer the thread question at first.
