It would feel weird to name different characters the same thing?
At least in private?

I just made it up on the spot, but for some reason i really like the name i gave my old female elf in dragon age; Blylbth

I will generally try to think of various names to use in games like that.

If the name is written in or I know the default (Link) I'll use that. If the character is a completely blank slate, I'll use my online username. If it's a Pokemon trainer, I use my nickname Ash.

If it's a Pokemon... I use some kind of god from mythology.

I usually go with, 'Sam' - good for a male or female character. :D

Sometimes Zoe for a female, if I am feeling wild.

When it comes to people, I choose the names of the daughters I'd like to have one day...

Tia Matthew, Samaus Aran and Terra Branford.

When it comes to animals, pokemon, w/e - I go with either angelic, demonic or draconic references.

Captcha: it will pass.

For Pokemon, I always, always use the name "Chadd." When I was younger, I had met a kid named Chadd that spelled his name with two D's as opposed to my spelling, Chad. I wanted to change my name to his spelling, but naturally my parents wouldn't let me.

Didn't stop me from naming my Pokemon profiles Chadd for a few years. And now I continue the tradition with all new Pokemon games.

For non-Pokemon games, it's usually Chad or Chada, though I've taken a liking to "Chaux" or "Chaugust," since my birthday is in August and the X sounds cool.

I used to always name characters my name, but I decided that was lame. So I've experimented. My current name is Fayle Yor.

Usually I go with serious-ish names - the only exception was my first playthrough of Mass Effect 3 with a new character (I named her German Shepard)

If the character has a canon name, I'll use that, just seems weird to call them something else. Otherwise I tend to name my female characters Dannely or Tanis and my male characters Maelon or Revan (yes, that Revan. I liked KotOR a LOT. Plus it's an awesome-sounding name).

I try to keep names consistent with the character I create, and try to give historical relevance. If I know my character is going to be a village-massacring bastard in a medieval RPG, then he'll probably have a Viking or Mongolian name. However, a village-massacring bastard in KOTOR would be entirely different.

My favorite for naming characters is the Elder Scroll series, because each race has a distinct culture and language, which makes you even more creative. In Skyrim, I once made an Imperial character for the sole purpose of joining the Dark Brotherhood and
killing the Emperor
, so I named him Brutus.

It depends. If I'm using a male character, and my name would fit the setting, I name the character after me. If, for example, I'm playing a Persona game where "Sean" just wouldn't fit, I choose a name that would fit. In the case of Persona, a Japanese name. If I'm using a female character, I tend to choose different names; my Pokémon Black character is named "Heather", my Persona 3 Portable character is named "Sayaka" and my Monster Hunter Tri character is named "Violet". I'm planning to choose the female protagonist once more in Pokémon Black 2 and call her "Alice".

I honestly prefer girl names over guy names.

EDIT: I just remembered: I almost named a guy Jimmy Russel, but it wouldn't fit in the box.
