I carry heavy weapons and long range firepower. Sometimes snipe so i like it when games allow the co-op person to carry weapons which balence my weakness's. Like the two guys i game with, 1) likes to rush and use close combat techniques (he's not great but he makes a good distraction) and 2)the other uses explosives and medium range weapons a little to much for his sanity (team kills with over sized blasts...hence my prefering to stay away)
That's kinda how my friends and I play. I generally like to stay back and snipe or assault from med range, friend 1 is more of a rush-in-shooting-maniacaly guy and friend 2 plays support when available. While these are our usual roles, we mix it up a
lot depending on the game, the situation and the weapons available.

I like Serious Sam's co-op.(only played the Gamecube version) Both players go through the game but item pickups are separated. This fixes the problem where two or more people have to agree to only use a specific weapon because there isn't enough ammo for everybody.
I like it when there isn't enough ammo to use the same weapon as your partner. It forces you to really think about your weapon choice and mix things up a little. That way, both players won't end up doing the exact same thing.
Our favourite game to play together is Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
So many hours spent on Galactic Conquest. The game has a great mix of characters that allows for many different multiplayer strategies. There I am, a Clone Trooper, trying to take a command post alone, surrounded by enemies, about to die. At the last second, my health suddenly fills up to 2/3 full. That's my buddy, who saw me in need and came and dropped a health/ammo pack on me. Then my other buddy rolls in in the tank he just spliced into. Together we manage to take out the rest of CIS droids and take the command post.
I can't tell you how many times that has happened. "It is impossible to win without working together with your team mates" gets my vote.
