Definitely some people play better with aim assist off. I play FPS games with aim assist on console, because I don't have nearly as much experience as some people. I'd play Timesplitters 2 with aim assist and have a good time, then I'd go to a more experienced friend's house and get owned by his ability to score unassisted jumping headshots with just about any weapon.

One of my cousin plays Black Ops on 10 sensitivity and still achieves more precision than I get with a setting of 3. People like that only play one game, and get so used to it they need no aim assist.
You can jump in Timesplitters 2?! You can't in 3?!

OT: Yeah, I don't really like it in normal gameplay, but it does help me with machinima, because it makes tracking shots a bit easier.

If you really want to see just how much aim assist helps you in MW2, make two classes:
One class with the vector silenced, and one class with the M4 silenced + acog. Then try to engage enemies at mid-range and beyond. At mid-range, you will kill in the same amount of bullets, and the vector has slightly higher RoF and the same general recoil pattern as the M4. The big difference is that the acog increases the aim assist range to much farther than the vector. You will see just how much the aim assist helps you.
Also worth mentioning that I've been playing CoD for quite a few games and I have had the problem of aim assist working against once every 200 or so games.
...And facepalm.

Yes. I would kill the guy faster with the M4, but that's because of the acog, not the aim assist. I'd be able to see him easier and fine tune my aim better than I would with just the vector's irons.

The main point I'm trying to get across is that I find aim assist unintuitive and that makes me worse and that there should an option for people like me to turn it off. I even gave an example in the Medal of Honor multiplayer of how turning on the aim assist made me a worse player.

You like the aim assist and it works for you. That's fine. I don't and it doesn't. So there should be an option to allow me to play without it. It's that simple.

You're playing an older game. Black Ops has a toggle that actually works. Also, are you playing on PC, or console? God help you if you're playing MW2 on console * shudder *
It does? That's odd. I played the PS3 demo (Yeah. I'm on console) for black ops and turned it off. I still noticed it during gameplay, albeit not as bad as MW2, but it was there... Hmm... Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'll take another run through the demo and see.

If you're frequently getting into firefights with too many people, you're doing something wrong, that's one.

The game doesn't actually autosnap to the target if your reticle is nowhere near him, that's too. Being a seasoned console CoD player, I've never had ANY problems with the aim assist in singleplayer or multiplayer. If something, it makes it too easy.
While the aim snapping isn't something to ***** about, the aim assist is. I've lost count of the amount of times i've been trying to shoot another sniper, pulled the trigger, and i've missed because a guy ran across my view and dragged the camera with him.

The aim assist would do more work for you than the acog would. For the sake of argument, you could just take off the acog and engage at mid range, you still get farther aim assist than the smg does, but it's not as far, so the window for comparison would be smaller. I'd try to find a better example that really isolates just the aim assist as a factor, but it's been a long time since MW2 and many of the iron sights escape me. Red dot on both I suppose.
I get that you don't like aim assist, but if a game has aim assist, having an option to turn it off would make you much worse than your competition past close range. You can say the aim assist would make you worse, but it wouldn't. I really wouldn't be opposed to an option to turn it off, it would make those who want the option happier and make my enemy easier to kill, so win win.

Urgh... Okay. In the Medal of Honor multiplayer, which had an option to turn aim assist on and off, I was fairly reliably in the top spot, or the top 3. I had it turned off. When I tried turning it on after hearing people on the EA forums saying basically what you are, I suddenly dropped to the bottom 3 every match. Trust me. I'm a hell of a lot better without aim assist.

Personally I like Aim Assist because I only started playing FPSs on consoles a couple months ago and frankly, aiming with a stick instead of a mouse is horrible.

Also, Black Ops has an option to turn Aim Assist off in Multiplayer.

Can't speak for MoH, or your situation, as it's not something that can be proved either way, so I'm not going to argue one way or the other. Anything I could have said was said in my last post, that I'm of the belief that in general, if aim assist is hurting you consistently, you're doing it wrong.

Meh, just accept the fact that COD takes little "skill" to play anyway. Aiming isn't even that much of a skill, after a few days of playing (for someone who has never played before) it's all down to reactions, which is quite underwhelming.

I kinda just accepted that it's more of just a fun game to play, not really anything beyond that though.

I do agree though, aim assist is bullshit, and one of the reasons I don't play FPS's, that and I'm seriously fucking bored of shooting guns.
