I'd much rather have root beer or Dr. Pepper than either of these options.

Fuck yeah, Dr. Pepper! Diet Dr. Pepper for me especially. It's the only diet drink that doesn't taste like shit.

That said, of the major sodas I prefer Dr. Pepper.

As of right now my preferred flavor is Coke Vanilla Zero.

Every single one of you should be given a badge of honor for enjoying the greatest soda known to man. Seriously, in my perfect society, people like you would be a sort of noble society, looking down upon the filthy common-soda-drinking peasants.

Oh, and the one guy who said Vanilla Coke, I just have to say that you are a god among men, sir. Vanilla Coke is the SECOND best soda known to man, but you've got serious balls to stand up and support such a scarce soda.

Yes, the difference between coke and pepsi is less significant to me than the energy needed to move my hand an extra 5-6 inches.

You know, I've seen this asked a lot.

And oddly, it seems to reach the rather interesting conclusion most of the time that the majority of people in the US prefer Pepsi, while the majority of people in the rest of the world prefer Coke.

You might think that's just random, but there might be an actual reason for it. Apparently Coke sold in the US is made using High Fructose corn syrup.

Well, it's not reliable evidence, certainly. It's anecdotal at best.

My point is this is about the 5th or 6th time I've seen a discussion like this, and if there is a preference towards Pepsi in these discussions, it's almost always expressed by Americans.

The bit about the kind of sweetener used is true though. (At least for Coke. What pepsi uses I wouldn't know). But whether this has any influence on the results is beyond me.

Pepsi uses corn syrup in the states, so it really can't have any influence. The U.S. has high tariffs on sugar in order to appease domestic corn growers.

I think you're not really thinking this through

Even if Pepsi uses corn syrup as well, the fact that the formulation of Coke is different means the taste could be different.

That in and of itself could influence the results, regardless of whether Pepsi also tastes different, or what the respective formulations are.

The only situation in which a change to the formulation of either of the two would have no influence on the results at all would be if both Coke and Pepsi tasted 100% identical.

For the longest time it was Coke and not because I liked it but because there was more of it in various stores as of lately I have started drinking pepsi mostly because it tastes a little different but also cause it's somewhat cheper.

Pepsi is far too sweet for my taste. It's like one of those sugar-replacement-pills that diabetics put in their coffee. I'm also not a particularly big fan of Pepsi Max, so yeah, Coca-Cola all the way.

... But in all honesty, I can't tell the difference. Apparently I should, and I should fight to prove one taste is better than the other, but god knows I don't have the time or energy.

Coke, definitely Coke. That being said I never drink it on its own, only when I mix it with rye or rum.
