How many of you give up the extra cash for the collectors edition?

Personally I don't mind paying the extra if the content is worth it extra character skins and an in game item don't cut it with me I demand figurines, dvds and free games.

I like the shinier boxes, but also some extra stuff is fun too for only like ten dollars more, or a Halo Legendary set, which yes I bought and the Helmet is proudly displayed in my basement.

However I don't really do it if it's not a game I really want or if it's like only a DVD, I want a little more please.

Needs a "Depends" option. If it adds something to enhance gameplay, or added weapons, then yes. I'll also make exceptions if it includes a Developer Commentary or "Making of" disk.

i honestly dont think its worth it. You pay an extra 10 dollars for the same thing but a different box, and sometimes a little extra accessories in the game. Overall not worth it in my opinion

If I like what you get with them and they're not insanely expensive I buy collector's editions.
The Fallout 3 one was very good, a great art book giving you a look into the design of the game, a bobble-head and a lunch-box, great fun.

I've really started buying limited editions of everything I possibly can nowadays, unless the extra content isn't worth the money (I'm looking at you, GSC, releasing one of the most badass collectors editions ever with Clear Sky, but only in ex-USSR countries, while the rest of us get a crappy steel case and a poor quality map for near twice the cost of the normal game).

This also applies to CDs and movies, I've even started buying special editions of things I already own if I can find them cheap (the LotR DVDs, the Matrix collection). I even spent £100 on a rare limited production piece of Rammstein memoribilia (sp?), and waited 3 months for them to print more of the Voelkerball Photobook edition. Kinda regret it seeing as I'm growing out of their new stuff, but I'll probably be able to sell them on eBay for a fair bit.

Depends on the game for me.
If I really like the game, I usually do it.
If not, I'm not that excited for it, I don't.

It really depends. I never have bought a collectors edition, but if it was a game I planned on getting and it was really worth it I would dish out the extra cash for it.

DMC 3 has a good deal on the collectors edition, considering it costs the same as the normal version and you get to play as Vergil.

It depends on what's in the package. I really wanted the Fallout 3 one, but due to pricing issues at the time I couldn't buy it. That is, one shop was selling the PS3 version of the CE for £19.99 but sadly didn't have the 360 version in stock. I ended up just going for the regular version, as I weasn't going to pay the £49.99 it was going for elsewhere.

I picked up the Fable 2 collectors edition, which wasn't really worth it. Luckily, thanks to my Game reward card, it ended up costing the same as the regular version.

I was suitably pleased with the Gears of War 2 CE though...

Making sure that the extra content inside is worth it obviously.
Or if the do something mega to the case like... make it constantly on fire.

Usually I don't, unless they've got something that I want badly. For example, I wish I had bought the Fallout 3 CE. I'm not saying that everything that comes with CE's are bad, but some of the books and what have you are... Dull. The only exception so far was the Wrath of the Lick King CE book, that included concept art by Samwise, whose last name I've forgotten. That was amazing.

For me, games whose previous entires I was really into definitely make the Collector's Edition cut. Halo 3 Legendary, Gears of War 2 Collectors, etc. Ironically, they also tend to have the best LEs/CEs. For other games, it depends on what comes with it.

The SFIV Limited was worth it for me - the game, movie, C.Viper Figure, box and strat guide made the $100 worth it. Halo Wars was a definite for me - even though the Mythic Maps were a big part for me, I probably still would've gotten it for the book and little info things. The Mass Effect one was well worth it too.

However, there are LEs and CEs I regret getting. One of them is the SC:DA one....utterly, utterly lame....the documentaries aren't even good. Same with the PC Collector's Edition of ET: Quake Wars.
