When I pre-order a game, I normally look to see if there is a collectors' edition and order that. The thing is, I was screwed over on recent games that I bought the collectors' editions of (Spore and Fallout 3, neither of which I enjoyed very much) and end up with a 70 dollar lunch box. I am going to get the Collecters' Editions of Resident Evil 5 and possibly The Sims 3 but I was wondering who all buys them and why?

I bought the Collector's Edition of Resistance 2 but I can't really tell you why. I guess cause it was only $10 more than the standard and I got two extra discs with it. Normally a collector's edition has a bonus disc with behind-the-scenes, making-ofs and stuff like that and I'm interested in that stuff to be honest. Or in the case of Resistance 2 a badass action figure.

Yeah I got the Red Alert 3 collectors edition mainly for the sweet music, otherwise I normally just buy the standard.

Crap I'm sorry I searched "collectors edition" and that didn't show up. I'm sorry.

I usually grab the collector's edition if there's an awesome little trinket (a figurine, special content, etc.). If it's just some concept art and a behind-the-scenes bonus disk, though, I don't bother.

Don't worry about it; everybody makes mistakes. You can ask someone to lock it if you want.

I've gotten collector's editions before.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation (because the box art was cool and the bonus DVD was actually pretty good)
Prince of Persia (came free with a preorder, so why not)

Doubtful I'll get any more. Unless you count attempting to get my Skate 2 case signed by Rob Dyrdek, which I will be doing soon.

Sometimes collectors editiona are a real bargin, like when it's the same price but you get a DVD that you might explore once, a shirt, and/or some other in-game theme gear that will impress your friends for about 5 seconds.

...What I wonder is what happens in like 20, 30, 40, 50 years time? Will collectors edition gear have genuine market value? Like a table is just a table untill someone says it's an antique.

Why is there not a "other" or "depends"? For me it is all about the swag. If it has a cool figurine or a cool tin (like Fallout 3) then yep I'll pay the extra. Now if it is just an extra "making of" disc and a shiny cardboard case well I'll save the extra 10 bucks and just buy normal.
