Manga is not a Comic Book...it's Manga

DC does own Vertigo...but its like Pepsi owns Taco Bell....it really has nothing to do with any of the creative possibilities. Still brilliant.

Alan Moore has written for several different companies...as do most comic book industry folk.

And now everyone feel free to call me names and pick apart my post....I know I am just ultra nerd that reads too many comics. I still think regardless of what anyone says it is at least great that the site even HAS a comic book thread! Bravo!

I can't decide on a favourite company to be honest. DC has amazing series such as The Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War and various batman series, while Marvel has series such as Wolverine Origins, Civil War, etc. Dark Horse has Hellboy and a bunch of various series too. It's literally a tough choice.

DC/Vertigo (known for Sandman and Fables) is my favorite by very far,
then Slave Labour Graphics (known for Johnny the Homicidal Maniac),
then Marvel
then Image

In the Marvel/DC dichotomy, I generally lean toward Marvel (though I'll admit to a brief allegiance to Image back in their heyday), but certain parts of the DC Universe will always hold a special place in my heart:
1). The Spawn/Batman crossover by Frank Miller and Todd McFarlane. Two greats at the height of their game created quite possibly the greatest comic I've ever read. Cross-publisher crossovers are usually a complete joke, but this one gets away with it.
2). Elseworlds. Sometimes I think the Elseworlds imprint is a kind of apology for the whole "Crisis on Infinite Earths" fiasco, and for my reading pleasure, apology accepted. Continuity is a dangerously precious (if totally unrealistic) thing, and Elseworlds knows this and respects this. These stories are alternate realities, and they've never pretended to be otherwise.

Ah, so hard to pick, I'll pick Tokyopop because I doubt anyone else picked that. Manga wins, but for favourite comic I'd choose....DC for Watchmen...or Marvel for Wolverine.

I only got into comics when I saw the trailer for Watchmen calling it the best graphic novel ever or something, so I went out and bought it and loved it.

I then bought Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. At first I disliked the art style but after I got over that I really enjoyed the book.

Then I bought Batman: Year One by Frank Miller again and thought it was alright, just too short for my liking (I had read about 2/3 of it in about 30 minutes).

I bought Ronin (by Frank Miller surprise surprise!) last week and really enjoyed it. I had read the blurb and thought it would be all badass epic samurai fights in a futuristic New York so while I was disappointed for a while, I really enjoyed the story. The twist at the end mindfucked me a bit but then I was like "WOAH!" when I figured it out.

All of those were DC comics and I wanna buy V for Vendetta next or the Sandman series. Something about DC comics appeals to me and I haven't really seen a Marvel comic that I would actually want to buy yet. Any recommendations from anyone?

Marvel (DEADPOOOOL) and Viz (Bleach, Naruto). I also bought a lot of Donald Duck comics when I was young, gave most of them to the local library or my school library. And I still have some Dragon Ball and DBZ (...I think, I'm sure about the DB ones) in my basement.

Almost. Manga = whimsical pictures. It says NOTHING about comics or comic books.

I'm not really that much into comic books, but there are some I like alot, Watchmen as an example. So pretty much DC because of that.

Can't really pick a favorite nowadays. I've been dabbling in many titles lately.

I usually pick comics by author but most of my favourite authors (Neil Gaiman, Mike Carey, Alan Moore) write/wrote stuff for Vertigo so I guess I'd go with them.

I've always read a wide range of comics, but mostly Marvel, followed by D.C. I'll pretty much read anything well-written, but I haven't been able to get into Manga, like, at all. I don't know why, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

X-men, when it has decent writers, and the various spin-offs. Lately the spinoffs have had better writers. X-force and X-factor are awesome.
