Poll: Comparing penises in the shower.

There's a thing that has been bothering me for a while, so I decided to go find out at the risk of sounding horribly juvenile.
Please don't think I'm doing this because I just want to be gross and childish. I really need to know.

Like, I assume, many of you I grew up hearing that guys compare their members in the showers after p.e. class or whatever. Practically whenever we had a sex-ed class, there was some reference to the claim that boys compare willies, quoting it as an absolute truth. There is one image that stands out in my mind: It was a drawing of a bunch of naked kids standing in a circle, exclaiming things like "So tiny" "So hairy" etc.

The idea seemed disgusting to me at the time, and never have I engaged in or observed such behaviour. The fact that I have never observed such a thing has led me to wonder: Where did the concept that men do this come from in the first place? Seriously. Does anyone do it at all?
Has it suddenly gone out of fashion? Is it just uncommon where I went to school?

Sex-ed sold it to me as one of those things that guys just do, like hunting bears and fighting hairy things that may or may not be bears.
It just baffled me that they took the time in school to teach me about something that I've never heard of anyone doing, let alone done myself.

So is this as common as what I've been told, or was it all bullshit?
Mind you, I'm not talking about catching a glimpse of a fellow shower-patron's member and mentally comparing it to your own. I'm talking about openly comparing here.

Got to say I've never done this or heard of it happening to anyone I know. And I know some pretty strange people.

I have to say that sex-ed in schools is mostly pretty worthless for all sorts of reasons, and one of them is that teachers are amusingly out of touch with the reality of what actually goes on with students, sexuality and relationships. Maybe what you're describing happened 40 years ago but I'd be surprised if it's a common occurrence in this day and age.

Nope, we had showers in our school but we never used them. We always had P.E before lunch so even if we coulda used them nobody would, cos everyone wanted to be first in the lunch queue before the hotdogs or whatever ran out (irony)

Also never even heard of this happening, im guessing this is maybe an american thing (im from the UK)

I've heard about a lot of rugby players that do it, not like the scene you were presented with but something along those lines. But if you're in a shower with naked guys then its very unlikely your eyes come away unscathed so it's more of an expected accident than a planned contest.

Also I think it's instilled into our minds to compare, but I don't believe it's an open event.

Some people defiantly do it, but i doubt it is a common practice. When i was at school, people either showered after swimming lessons with their swimshorts on or didn't shower at all.

I remember having one traumatic moment in Germany, when en-route to the changing room after a swim i passed by the showers and caught sight of a huge, naked old guy. Not pleasant >.<

Well, gotta say. Not sure if our town was out of the norm, but when nearly every boy was drunk, one of the two things tended to happen.

1. Naked streaking somewhere.

2. Penis contests. Then the one with the biggest tended to be just ashamed, while the second largest tended to point it out. to everyone. whether we liked it or not.

Coming from a guy, we didn't have showers in our school. But in the school locker were a scary place, and guys did make (usually bullying or machismo) comments about the undergarments or anatomy of others.

Maybe It's a mistranslation. I was told that what we call "Gym" - where we exercise, play basket or do some running or pushups or something - was called P.E. - short for physical education - in English-speaking countries.

And yes, after sweating for an hour or two, we take a shower before we go on with our day at school.
I thought that was pretty common practice. I certainly wouldn't want to walk around school soaked in sweat for the rest of the day.

I've heard of it from telly, but I always assumed it was a joke more than anything. I mean, why on earth would you? I'm only interested in another guys penis size if we're going to have sex and even then I'd prefer a better setting than the showers after PE. Also, my school had separate showers in cubicles, so we weren't just one big group of naked dudes. In fact, you couldn't even get two people into one shower cabin. Unfortunately...

I know what your talking about but have never done it myself or hear of others doing it. I was in JROTC in high school, so never went to P.E. and in middle school the showers were rarely used.

I never witnessed anything the OP mentioned, but I think "comparing penises" can also just mean that a guy might on occasion look (not noticeably) at another guy's junk and mentally compare it to his own, or others he has seen. I imagine that kind of comparing is probably not that uncommon.

Never done it or never hear anyone doing it. While my middle and high schools had showers no one properly used them. And while the other guys were juvenile they were also somewhat homophobic.

But there are times were male teens who compared and made fun of those who showered nude in public pools/gyms.
