Poll: Completionist or chronic resetter? How do you play your games?

I've recently noticed that, for the most part, I don't tend to play games to reach the ending of a story or anything. I tend to play up until a point where I lose interest, then when I go back to play them again, I start anew instead of continuing from where I left off. Perhaps the most egregious example is with the old Lucasarts game "Gladius"; I must have neared the end of that game about three times now, but I just prefer to make a new school instead of finishing the plot that I don't really care about. Not to mention titles like Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mount & Blade...

How about you people? Do you care any about the "finish line"? How do you play your games?

It depends on the game, but I'm a replay nut. It's high on my ratings list for games. If it's got good replay value, it goes a long way toward being a great game.

I'm also an OCD completion freak for certain games, like Just Cause 2. Oddly, other similar games, like GTA IV, don't really have that effect on me. It's random OCD, I guess. /shrugs

I'm a total completionist - that really began with Grand Theft Auto 3, and it's continued ever since. It gives me something to strive for, and it lets me get more out of my games. Now, with trophies, I can do this with every game.... although I find this can sometimes interfere with my enjoyment as I push myself to acquire whatever trophy I'm going for, the eventual satisfaction I get out of getting the Platinum for a game is well worth it =D

If I really like the game, I will go through it until I get 100% done, see all the endings, all the side missions, get all the trophies, etc..
But for most games I just play through it once or twice to get the ending(s).

I do replay most of my games though, usually with a gap of a year or more.

If I like a game, I complete it. If I really like it, or there are excellent incentives to do so, I will complete optional aspects.

If I don't like it after a reasonable length of time, I will put it down.

It all depends on the game.

Usually I play for about 5-10 hours before I lose interest in an RPG.
There are a few exceptions, Fallout3 was played for about 100 hours total(had seen everything after about 30), Oblivion got a few hundred hours(first Francesco's mod, later OOO both changed the game enough for it to be fun again) and I'm still not bored of Disgaea 3, not that I'd restart Disgaea, my main character is only level 141.

Totally depends on the game.

I'm aprticularly guilty of this in the Pokemon games. I replay all the old games, that noone ever uses anymore adn are uncompatible with newer ones, over and over, but I keep the later generations intact.

On RPGs I play unitl bored, then start a new character.

On stories that take VERY long, I save at cool points, then later replay those.

Gotta admit, I often lose interest just before (Or even during), the last boss fight/level. Don't know why. Maybe because all the choices have been made, and I secretly don't want the story to end?

I've done this with a lot of games, but the final fantasy ones are probably the worst.

Im a finisher. I'll even play through a piece of shit like Blacksite: Area 51 just to beat it.

I seem to have turned into some sort of completionist.. I created a new gamertag and everything just so I would be able to complete all my games (some I had sold). Im never finished until I have drained every ounce of a game!

No stone left unturned, no head left intact.
Fallout 3 has kept me going a while.

I'm definitely a completionist. Even though I've pretty much beaten every game I own, I still haven't gotten 100% on all of them.
