I was watching E3 today when i saw that Final Fantasy 13 will be released on the 360 aswell as the PS3, then my friend called me up crying about how the ps3 has nothing left to call their own. So im asking you, do you like console exclusives?

I noticed that the FF13 announcement has allready started three different threads here, I'm keeping track,

But on the subject, I belive that the console exclusive both helps and hurts the gaming industry

on the good side, it endorces competition, which results in better games and better consoles

but on the bad side, it makes games look less like an artform, you don't see theaters battle over exclusive rights to play different movies

My computer...well it blows pretty hard, so I can't play many newer games on it. I wouldn't say I love console exclusives so much as I love it when games aren't pc exclusives.

This poll is meaningless. It's like saying that MGS4, Halo 3, and SSBB all suck simply because they are only available for their respective systems. They all have their problems, but the problem ISN'T that they're available for only one console.
uhh... no. Im not saying MGS4, Halo, and SSBB suck because they are for only a console. Hell i didnt even mention any games and how Exclusiveness affects them. Reread the first post and answer the damn question.

Necro, I think the OP's asking whether you like the idea of console exclusives, not the actual games. Of course, I may be wrong.

As for me, I'm alright with them. I hate how I have to buy seperate consoles for seperate games, but then, I think it creates and maintains competition. I've always lived with console exclusives as a necessary evil, but their day and age may be coming to a close.

I think exclusives are good for an individual console or PC because it gives people a reason to purchase their gaming rig of choice; I've been a particular Nintendo fan because of that (Metroid and Zelda to be specific) and although I did have a SEGA Genesis, I didn't play it nearly as much as my SNES; It's when the PS2 launched that I started branching out (again, because of the exclusives) and I currently own an X360 (and a wii :)), which is my first MS console, and guess why I got that one. The same applies to portables as well.

I did. And you're asking us if we decry a game for simply only being a one console. And I'm saying, it's an ignorant ideal. I'm not calling you out. I'm just answering your question, and unfortuenatly the way I do it best is as the good Sarge said, spitefully. The poll part was unnecesarry. The quetsion is about your feelings on console exclusives with only two extremes. When in most cases, we look at the game, not the console.
A console exclusive is a console exclusive, that's that. But if the game spreads out over other consoles, disliking it for that fact would just be, well, ridiculous.

So, calm down, I'm not assaulting you, I just want it to look that way.
wow, that actually makes sence, I agree with him

I'm not a fan... Partially because it fuels the flames of console fanboy warfare and also because it means that I don't get to play all the games I want to.

I lost all hope for final fantasy when I found out the main character was a blonde in a bandana named "Lightning". Think about that, and try NOT to cry.

...Ok so I had two reasons to buy a PS3. Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus...looks like I have only one reason now...

Regardless I don't hate exclusives, hell they help people branch out into different genres if you think about it. You buy a console for a game, and then maybe grab another game you wouldn't normally because you now have that console...

I hate the concept of exclusives in general (see other thread) so I think I'll always be on the "hate" side. Exclusives only hinder and hurt, and make gaming more expensive than it should be (because I have to buy so many ****ing systems.)

I like them personally I think that we are actually seeing too many multiplatform games right now. Having every single game be on multiple systems just means that the strengths of the individual platforms are never realized. In short it results in a more mediocre product. However this current trend was probably inevitable as costs skyrocketed.

First off, slap your friend and point out that Metal Gear Sold 4 isn't out on the 360 (yet), and last I checked, the MGS series wasn't "nothing".

Now, to the poll. Console exclusives are a good thing, not because they promote competition, but because there are limitations on what cirtain consoles can do. Do you think Wii Sport could ever work on a PS3 or 360? Conversely, Halo3 and MGS would be unplayable on the Wii. The PS3 can flex muscles the 360 can't, but Sony will never rival the online service provided by Microsoft.
And then there's graphics. A game that's on all three consoles would all look the same as the one on the weakest console, because the alternative is to make three different skins for everything, drasticaly pushing up production costs and cutting into profits.

It has nothing to do with liking the games. The question is if we would prefer all games to be like Madden, ie: on all systems, or if we like each system to have their own games, ala the X-Box has Halo and PS3 has MGS4. Whether or not we like the games themselves is has nothing to do with whether we like the concept of exclusives.

Anyways, I like console exclusives. When companies compete, we get better products.

e-fucking-xactly

nobody is even talking games, games were not invited to this cocktail party. Im not asking you to hate a game becuase its on a console, im asking you if you like the console exclusive idea. Its not hard really. If you like I will hold your hand and help you make a dicision. Use einy meiny miny mo if that helps. I dont care.

I like games for who they are. If it's a good game on a console I don't have that doesn't take away from the quality of the game. It's still annoying though.
