During a discussion happening over here, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.227432-Upgradeable-Consoles?page=1 I have decided to get a more definitive answer.

The question being

would you fork over the money for having more AA and higher FPS or faster load times?
Hardware prices would be the same as the PC counterpart + the usual 10% console tax for putting their sticker on it.
So console users out there, would you fork out 200-400(AUD) for new parts for your console of choice?

Final note, Please use the poll, the main discussion is going on over in the other thread, I am just interested in Yes or Nos from console gamers.

No thanks, that kinda defeats the purpose of consoles; plug and play. You just pop a disc in and you play the game you want. It's an advantage many people love, me including, so I'll stick with a standard machine for everyone.

Each platform has it's own advantages, it'd be silly to mix them up.

No, I'd just buy a gaming PC, which I'm going to do anyway because I don't like where console gaming is heading.

Yes, yes I would.

I know I could just 'be a PC gamer instead', but is it too much to ask for both? If you can have AA and speedy loading times on your PC, why not on your console? I can think of a few console exclusives that would look amazing with AA.

Not to mention being able to build your console up with parts would likely act as a gateway into PC gaming, not that gaming on a PC has to be the end goal, but some people are bound to upgrade their console, think it was a fun process (depending on how much construction is required, I'm guessing not a lot), and discover the PC as a platform they can thoroughly enjoy.

I dunno, they have tried this in the past with things like Segas 32x drive, or n64s upgrade chip.

I really dont see it taking off, because much like others have said... thats part of the joy of a console is plug and play and not having to fiddle with configurations.

Honestly I perfer what has been happening with upgrading, such as the minor refinement upgrades seen in example between first run xbox to the new blaq xbox having a quieter system, that is supposedly less prone to overheating issues.

thats good enough of an upgrade for me. Belive it or not I would rather see a new console generation come out, if upgrades are really that required.

besides... do you really want to get into a situation where you cant play a certain game without having X upgrade installed?

Yeah, i say pass.

Maybe, it depends how late in the game. I feel I've gotten enough use out of my 360 to justify upgrading it now, but earlier? NAAAAAAW. Then again, if games looked and played fine on my normal 360, then why bother? So no.

No, because the whole reason I'm a console gamer is so I don't have to deal with upgrades. I like knowing that the game I'm playing is specifically designed for the hardware I have, so I don't have to worry about a game not running because I don't have the right hardware for the job.

Heh, the 360 magnages to cook itself with it's regular hardware, if you though about upgrading it the damn would probably need to be fitting with a liquid cooling system and various other power draining appliances to regulate that little east bake oven of a console.
Personally i'm in with you "plug in and play crowd" but i have noticed one games like Darksiders and Bordelrands, as well as some other noticable slowdoan and other unsdesiberable graphical hitched that could be changed with the use of extra processing potential.
Pro tip for Devs, stop poslishing your graphics engine and give me more than 6 hours of gameplay.

good point temperature is something I have forgotten to think about in this, also power supplies. If your throwing in newer cards you'll be needing more power.

I bought the expansion pack for the N64 to play Perfect Dark 64 and Donkey Kong 64, so I'd be lieing if I said I wouldn't buy upgrades. I won't pay for upgrades to play motion control crap though.
