The Friends list is a common element in multiplayer games. But what about an Enemies list?

When viewing the list of players with whom you've recently engaged in multiplayer, you should have the option to specify a negative response as well as a positive one. You could then make choices about what to do with your enemies: receive warnings when they are in games you're about to join, ban them from games you host, maybe even show them with targets over their heads in game, so you'd always know who to shoot first.

The system would be called "Cool or Tool?".

I know many games have features for muting or kicking problem players. For this I am profoundly thankful. But why can't we have an Enemies list? If anyone knows of such a thing in an existing game/system, please include it in your response.

Edit: I've never owned an X-Box, so no, I didn't know they already do this. Doesn't surprise me, though. I didn't think I was the first one to have this idea.

Steam and Xbox Live already have such systems, imaginatively called 'block player' and 'player review'

They do exactly what you describe and in the case of Xboxlive also affect whether you will join games in matchmaking that contain said player, positive review makes you more likely to bump into them, negative less likely or avoids them entirely. Players that rack up negative reviews often get a visit from the ban hammer.

But Cool or Tool is a great title for such a system!

A lot of MMOs have an 'ignore' function which not only stops people from speaking directly to you (I refuse to use the word 'whisper' as that's a WoW thing) but often stops them from showing up on searches for teams, cell checks for players and proffesions(/classes) and even general chat channels. It doesn't often stop you from teaming with people, but that just lets you put aside your differences if you really need to work together.

Xbox Live is your friend in this. As well as your friend list, through XBL you can choose to 'like' or 'avoid' anyone you play against. When searching for joinable games online the system automatically discounts any game that contains one or more of your avoided players.

no
because
1. the system of blocking players already exists
2. most online games already notify players of players who have connected, so if you don't like one, you can leave, or get pissy or whatever
3. as a means to in some way track players without their consent, it could be used to grief HORRIBLY
4. if you have your own server, add them to your ban list
5. if you want a poll, MAKE A POLL!!! don't just put poll infront of your subject. I'ts there, use it.

People use the Friends system on Steam to grief right now. Assholes will Friend a guy in Left 4 Dead and follow him from game to game, harassing/TKing him, until they are kicked or the victim ragequits. What would my system change about that?

I made a poll but then it wasn't there when the thread started. Can't add it now.
