Well, I thought of one of thoughs video games that are kinda wierd. Like the Graveyard and The Path. I call it Cornfield.
The game starts of with you picking one of 4 people (like L4D) and you don't have any information on each person. There would be a mom, a strong big brother, a wierd little brother, and a platful little sister. The game goes to a third person mode with you right outside of a corn maze. You can move around abit but there is not much to do. Once you enter the corn maze you switch to a first person. Main objective, find the way out. Second objective, find 4 special items around the giant maze (each unlocks stuff). So you can lead the way, send others to check out certen paths, and look at a small paper map. But the map will only show the map, not were you are on it. The main idea is to listen to the conversations of the family. EX: BBrother "You got us lost again you @#$hole!" LBrother "It's not my..." *SLAP* Mom "Don't hit your brother!" You can also interacte with certan events you caused. EX: BBrother "You got us lost again you @#$hole!" *press a to slap* So the game would not really be about fighting or anything, it's more of a story. When you finaly find your way out, the game goes back to third person, and you can listen to the final chat with the family and walk away.

Replay value: Going back to the main and listening to the many conversations of the people, randomly find others to talk to, find little notes across the field with facts and notes, and the the special items. Each hole punch unlocks Two character bios (One for a main person, and one for a friend or family member that has to do with main guy) one miniture stage (EX: apple picking, training maze, etc.) and one new area to the 3rd person stage (graveyard, overlook of maze, soda machine, etc.) And if you find all of the special items, you get a final joke stage. It is basicly the maze only you get guns and fight corn.

NOTE: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T BE A JERK.

new ideas: If this had DLC, and I stay with the idea I have know, it would probly be things like Halloween pack: (haunted hay ride, possable ghosts in maze) Friends and family pack: (Play as the characters from the second bios) and things like that, so if you have some intresting ideas tell me.

Very difficult to implement, would require people have at least 5.1 surround sound, and I know more people without it than with it.

On top of that, it doesn't seem, fun. Interesting idea, but it does need to have something a bit more gripping, but considering it's a maze game, that will be very hard to do.

Sorry bud

Hmmm...well, it's an interesting idea (I'm all for anything that backs up "Games as Art" as opposed to "Games as Violence Simulators").

Here's a idea, free of charge: don't put an ending. Just keep bringing out DLC that expands the maze and gives the players more of an opportunity to interact with the family. A never-ending puzzle game, an eternal version of Myst.

Might be interesting.

I'm gong to assume you got this idea by visiting one of those corn mazes with your family.

This is not a bad idea, but what it would need to work is sound. The way the real life experience works is you hear the other people talking and tramping around and you find them more by sound than vision. So some very sophisticated sound design would be needed so you could pinpoint the direction sound is coming from as well as be able to judge distance. This would be the main selling point and would likely require headphones to work right. Even then, it might only work as WiiWare or whatever such games are called.

The basic concept would need to be jazzed up somehow to be commercially viable. Perhaps you throw gourds at one another or something.

I don't think it's a bad idea. If you were to realize it, the focus would need to be on sound for it to work.

Hmm... have the trick be that the maze keeps randomly generating, ensuring no end. Or throw zombies into the maze. Or scarecrow monsters.

There should be more gripping tension to keep things interesting. Maybe a survival horror, just in a maze. Then you could have even more interaction with the family, if say someone gets picked off you can see the family's reaction.

Interesting. I love the idea of having multiple characters. Games these days seem to be pretty light on that. I had a similar idea with an abandoned fort and people going spelunking in it, and I was thinking of making it so that the only way you could fully understand the story is by playing through as all the characters.

I don't really get how it's practically different from any other maze game. You just have a bunch of people following you and arguing, which doesn't really affect the gameplay and could potentially just get annoying.

I think it could be improved a bit. NOTE:This entire game, cut scenes and all, would have to be in 1st person. This idea could b realy scary and immersive if the programers tried hard enough.
Near the start, you will passs a scarecrow, and one of the characters will comment on how creepy it looks. You will play normaly as the OT details. Just as you start to get out of the maze, something happens(a flash of red?) and when you wake up, your alone, still in the maze.
You call and and such but nothing happens. it is considerably more dark and gloomy. You have lost your map, as well as all your equipement you gathered in the maze. You move forward in the maze and eventualy come apon two items: The map, or a walky talky. If you reach for the map, there is another flash and the walky talky is gone. This option would be usefull if you just want to get the fuck out, and dont care about your family. Alternatively, you can reach for the walky talky. This will reconnect you with ONE family member.
As you play through, you find increasingly scary elements, such as quick flashes of gory images, your family memebers running up to you and noking you down, just for them to mirculously disappear, ect. However, these events will happen few and far between. The key to this game will be isolation and an inexplicable sense that the maze itself is trying to keep you there.
Eventualy, if you make it to the end of the maze, when your in the maze still but looking at the end, it will appear to be a happy farm scene with people and blue skys and such, but the second you step out of the maze it will all change in another flash, and everything will be like blood and guts and such, and the sky will be red, and the house will be burning. If you go in the house you will find 1 family member, yelling and screaming in tounges, and he/she will sprint up to you and start shaking you, screaming something about how "the maze is all, the maze is one, the maze is lord" and then suddenly the scene will change and you will be back in the corn field, and your crazed family member will run off. You will be lieing on the ground, and you will look to your left.
There will be 2 items: A knife, or a flashlite. You will notice it is almost nightime. If you choose one the other disappears. You will go through an entire night, with a few more creepy events happening, with considerably more if you didn't choose the flashlite.
The next moring, also dark/gloomy, you will hear a scream off in the distance. So you move toward it, and you see the creepy scare crow tear one of your family members to shreds. So you fight the scarecrow, with the knife if you have it, with a plank of wood if you don't. Once you destroy the scarecrow you shall have to burn it. Once it will burn there will be a cinematic of a giant, dark, evil spirit thing rise from the flames, screaming.
Then there will be a flash of light, and you will wake up in a hospital bed in an asylum. There will be a nurse looking over you and she will say "Calm down! I can see your not adjusted to your medicine yet" and you will be like "It wasnt real?" and the nurse will say "No just a dream" and you will repeat "Just a dream...Just a dream" a few times until the nurse leaves the room. and once she leaves the room the game will take over and you will look around the room, and when it looks over to your left there will be a quick flash of red, and the scarecrow thing will be there, and then the credits will roll.

Good? Bad?

Thats sounds like a great "out o' the box" idea, I like it a bit, but you'd have to refine the gameplay a great deal to make it fun, or els it would get really repetative real fast ans soon would be a game completely run on trial and error.

if the game started off as a corn field and then switched to something dark and sinister with underlying tention and heavy atmosphere kinda like that movie 1408, you might be onto something brilliant, but throwing a rock from 1 end of an idea to the other does not a game make

Aside from all the spelling mistakes, this sounds amazing! It could be a very in depth game indeed. One thing to add though perhaps? Every time you end up back in the maze, its different, with different paths and traps. I think if you zombiejoe that is, can add some or all of these elements suggested, you could have a great Halloween release. That is if you can get it developed by a decent company. But this would most likely have to come with some sort of other games because this game by itself is just not quite substantial on its own. Better yet, make it available on XBLA, PSN, DSiWare and for th PC. This would be an amazing download. Feel free to contact me with any further ideas and perhaps you and TheGreatCoolEnergy could somehow get in tough and really make a great game plan. Or not, if you wanna solo this beastie be my guest, just make sure to tell me the final plans, I'm now very interested.

If it were made, it should be leaning into the style of Eternal Darkness. Weird stuff has to happen to mess with your mind. Like repetitive maze sections if you keep walking a certain path, but it really ends up being different towards the end or something...

And a moving scarecrow would also be recommended. Although it wouldn't hurt you because "It's just being pushed by wind", it would scare the crap out of the player.
(And make sure it follows the players through much of the game, so tension builds up, only for the players to find out that it has no significant value at the end. All that worrying would be for nothing :D)
