To some, 2007 still holds the distinction of the best year in the history of gaming. While this is a highly subjective thing, the year did give us a slew of great titles toward the year-end Christmas rush: COD4, Bioshock, The Orange Box, and many more, including the inaugural games in the Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed franchises.

Enter 2011. While most years find me struggling to assemble a respectable top 5 list, I already have a tentative one going into this year's hotly anticipated holiday season. We've yet to see Skyrim, Drak Souls, BF3, MW2, the new Assassin's Creed and game and so on.

So, what do you reckon?

I wasn't into gaming to 2007 so I can't judge which one is better but damn there are a lot of amazing games coming out soon. It's a good thing I have money saved up.

Dude, fuck 2011, it's been an alright year, but y'know what'll be fucking gigantic? Next year. Square is poised to make a huge comeback, and the Vita is going to be amazing (the best launch I've ever seen), to say nothing of it's eventual competition with the 3DS. The WiiU, if nothing else, will have better third-party support, and the way PS3 and Vita interact is going to be amazing. MGS HD Collection on the go, AND in HD? Pinch me.

I wasn't as avid on the game scene back in 2007 as I am now. But all I've been thinking lately, is "Damn, this is an awesome year for videogames!"

I didn't have an HD Console in 2007 so it was lame for me (I got Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass). 2011, yeah, Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Professor Layton and the Last Specter, and that's just the stuff I KNOW I'll get.

Some of these games I'd probably be all over if I had player their predecessors (Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Batman: Arkham City), others I need to wait and see if they'll be worth it to me (Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, the Metal Gear and Silent Hill re-releases, and Cave Story 3D), and then there's the stuff I can't play like Star Wars: The Old Republic (I'm not sure if my computer will run it, and I know I can't support the subscription fee right now) and anything for PS3 (Uncharted 3 for example) because I don't have one.

Yeah, I think 2011 will be pretty cool, early 2012 is shaping up nicely as well (Final Fantasy XIII-2, Mass Effect 3, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Dragon's Dogma, and hopefully Final Fantasy Type-0).

ME3 would just about tip the ballance for me had it not been delayed. Agreed that 2009 was a strong year. For me, anyway, the odd numbered years have been better than the even numbered ones in this gen.
